Rudi's Organic Multigrain Oat Bread

Rudi's Organic Multigrain Oat BreadI could never be a "No/ Low Carb" diet because of my love for bread. I can eat an English muffin or bagel at breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, and still enjoy a couple of dinner rolls. Thus, I'm always looking to try a new kind of bread. Recently, I decided to pick up a loaf of Rudi's Organic Multigrain Oat bread which was new to me, multigrain being a favorite of mine for sandwiches.

Now, allow me to start with stating that this is not a 100% whole grain loaf. The first ingredient is organic unbleached wheat flour, i.e. "fancy white flour". However, organic whole wheat flour is the third ingredient, so you do still enjoy some whole-wheat goodness. The good news is, if you're not fond of an overly wheat flavor, this bread is perfect for you. This bread really tastes like ... bread. There's nothing overly sweet, the grain flavors are detectable, but not overwhelming, and the texture is pleasantly hearty. It's not tough, but chewy (along the lines of a sourdough). This bread is also great for sandwiches because it does not become smashed under the weight of your sandwich fillings.

One slice of Rudi's Organic Multigrain Oat Bread contains 110 calories, 1 gram of total fat, no saturated fat, low sodium (180 milligrams), 4 grams of protein and 21 grams of carbohydrates which includes 2 grams of fiber (8% of the RDA) and 2 grams of sugar.

Although there are breads with fewer calories, I think the calorie caount of this bread is reasonable considering the size of each slice, although I would have like to see more fiber in a multigrain bread. Everything in the loaf is organic. Clearly whoever is in charge of Rudi's labeling wanted this fact drilled into your skull, as the word "organic" preceeds every single ingredient. One loaf will run you about $2.70, which, for an organic bread, is quite decent.
