Jimmy Dean D-Lights Black Forest Ham Breakfast Sandwich

Jimmy Dean D-Lights Breakfast SandwichJimmy Dean has some of the most unhealthy breakfast products I have ever come across. The Jimmy Dean Pancakes and Sausage Links Breakfast Bowl has 710 calories and 55% of the daily value of saturated fat. The Eggs, Potato, and Ham and Eggs, Potatoes, Bacon and Cheddar Cheese Breakfast Bowls have half the calories (390) but 120% of the RDA for sodium. Because of this, I really didn't have high hopes for their new "light" Jimmy Dean D-Lights Breakfast Sandwiches.

I tried the Black Forest Ham Sandwich which has a whole grain English style muffin with Black Forest Ham, egg white and swiss cheese. The sandwich actually looked (close to) picture perfect - but who has ever seen an egg white "patty" - that thing looked really fake and I couldn't even begin to imagine what it would taste like after being microwaved. But I went ahead anyway - and surprise, surprise - the sandwich wasn't too bad at all. The fake texture of the egg white took well to the microwave, and although this entire sandwich is nothing like homemade, it's definitely edible in a strange, I'm eating something totally fake, but it tastes surprisingly good - way.

One of the Jimmy Dean D-Lights Black Forest Ham Breakfast Sandwich has 240 calories, 9% of the RDA for total fat (6 grams) which includes 13% of the RDA for saturated fat, no trans fat, 15 grams of protein, 33% of the RDA for sodium (780 mg) and 30 grams of total carbohydrates which includes 2 grams of sugar and fiber (8% of the RDA).

Did they say that this Muffin was made with Whole Grain? It's in big capital letters front and center on the front of the box - but it is not on the ingredients list. There is enriched bleached flour - which has 'wheat flour' listed as the 10th ingredient. I'm not surprised.

A box with 4 costs $5.99, so it's quite expensive. While I would certainly prefer oatmeal or cereal, I know there are those days when you might want something different. So, if you cant whip up your own breakfast sandwich, then this is worth a try.

I love that people are becoming more aware of the importance whole grains play in a healthy diet, but I hate how deceptive packaging can be with their giant "Whole Grain!" claims on the front when the ingredients state otherwise.

I just tried one of these this morning and as I ate it I swear I was wondering if you'd review this! :) I actually really liked it - better even than their "original" version (which has canadian bacon, american cheese, and regular egg patty thing on an english muffin). The egg is a bit odd in texture, but I really liked this for an on-the-go, eat in the car breakfast. I had one at 8am and it kept me full till lunch just now (12:30pm).

I tried one this morning and I have to say, that I loved it. I am extremely over weight and I love breakfast sandwiches. I would normally hit the fast-food chain of choice and order 2. I am struggling with the whole "What is good for you vs. What is not?" and even though I know that these sandwiches could have alot more fiber in them, it is nice to know that if I want to endulge, I can and not carry around all the guilt that would drive me to eat even more.

I bought the turkey sausage ones today. They're pretty good except I can't stand the egg white. I just take that part off before microwaving it.

I do the turkey sausage ones regularly. Instead of mic'ing the bread i let the sandwich defrost, toast the bread and mic the egg and sausage, then let the cheese melt. Much better than the micro but more time consuming. Yummy! But here they are $6.49 for 4, a little pricy.

I also hate the "made with whole grains" catch. So many things are "made" with whole grains, but only as one of the last few ingredients. Its basically that they want to claim that, so the throw in a teaspoon with the yucky bleached flour.
