Fresh Gourmet Fat Free Garlic Caesar Croutons

This review was done by Lizabeth Burnett. Liz has a passion for cooking healthy foods which started out of a desire to lose weight. "Not wanting to turn to a cabbage soup and bean sprout diet, I started shopping and cooking more mindfully which helped me lose 50 pounds over the last three years. Aside from cooking, I'm currently studying to become a dental assistant and I work at the local library."

Fresh Gourmet Fat Free Garlic Caesar CroutonsI love croutons on top of my salad because they are seasoned, crunchy, toasty - what's not to love? So, I decided to try Fresh Express Fat Free Garlic Caesar Croutons, simply for the fact that Garlic Caesar sounds appetizing.

The first thought that struck me when I opened the bag of croutons was: "Wow, these are small." You see, these croutons are the same length, but half the width of a normal crouton. This is actually quite nice, as the croutons are more evenly distributed on your salad, and the pieces themselves are far more bite sized than a regular crouton. The texture is crisp and crunchy, not at all hard and the flavor is superb. Garlic is by far the most predominant flavor, with a bit of a peppery after-bite. My only real complain with these was that they get soggy a lot faster than most croutons that I've tried. In about 10 minutes, they started to become a bit mushy which was certainly not appetizing.

Allow me to say that you're not saving a lot of fat or calories per serving when it comes to Fresh Gourmet "Fat Free" Garlic Caesar Croutons. One serving (12 croutons) is 30 calories, no fat, low sodium, 5 grams of carbohydrates and...not much else. Regular croutons only have 35 calories and 1.5 grams of fat (2% of the RDA) per serving, so the difference between the two is practically nonexistent. Still, these are one of the products worth buying simply because they taste good. And at only about $1.00 per bag, you can't go wrong.
