ReUsable Grocery Shopping Bags

MinusbagsMore people are starting to take their own bags to the grocery store because, whether it's recyclable or not, this practice will eventually cut down on the manufacture of the Earth killer known as plastic. So here are a few options if you, like me, decide to try this:

Miniusbags [PopGadget Pick]. Price: $16. These reusable, 100% cotton tote bags, come in many different colors and features a fruit graphic. I love the incorporation of a healthy theme - so that's my pick too.

Baggu BagsBaggu Bags [Chow.com Pick]. Price: $8 for 1 pack (including bag and pouch). One Baggu holds the contents of 2 to 3 plastic grocery bags and they are made from super strong rip-stop nylon (holds 25 lbs) and they fold into a flat 5 by 5 inch pouch that easily slips in a purse or pocket. Plus using just 1 Baggu per year replaces 300 to 700 disposable bags.

Envirosax BagsEnvirosax Reusable Grocery Bags [Apartment Therapy Pick]. Price: $8 each. These bags are lightweight, waterproof and reinforced to handle the same amount of groceries as two regular sized disposable bags. There are 30 eye catching graphic designs as well as an organic series featuring bamboo, linen and hemp.

I heartily endorse the Envirosax ~ I've had mine for a few months now, and they are super-strong, super-large and super-cute. They roll up small so you can keep a few in your purse or glove box. I get compliments on them wherever I go. Look at me, I'm like a commercial!

I just bought some reusable bags myself from Reusablebags.com - they are call B Happy bags and come in so many beautiful designs for $19 each (I got two - the Victoria and the Lucy). You can also get them at www.bhappybags.com, but they are $24 there. Today was my first day using them. I put all my heavy produce on the bottom (butternut squash, carrots) and the lighter stuff (pears, kiwis) on top and used the second bag for boxes of things. They are pretty spacious and fit $76 worth of groceries between the two! And another wonderful surprise was how easy it was to unpack things not having to deal with 100 plastic bags flying all over my kitchen!! LOVE them!

I love the idea of resuable bags, but I havent actually purchased any yet. They are such a good idea, and my household always has so many leftover grocery bags that it really seems like an area that we can make a big difference. Thanks for spreading the word about these.

I've had a Chico bag (http://chicobag.com/) for about a year now and I couldn't recommend it more highly. It folds out to look just like the Baggu but its pouch is actually attached to the bag, so it never gets lost. I've turned lots of friends onto them and everyone is thrilled.
