Planters Energy Mix Trail Mix
This review was done by Ann H. In her words, "I am a 20 year old from southern Louisiana who is currently a 3rd year Marketing major at the University of Southern Louisiana. I am a bonafide "healthy product foodie!" My ultimate goal is to work in the marketing and development department of a healthy food company...like Amy's or Kashi."

Planters Energy Mix Trail MixI am always on the hunt for convenient, portable, healthy, and cheap on-the-go snack options. I tend to have an eagle-eye for new products that have hit the shelves, and last Sunday afternoon, when I was in Target cherishing my little self-imposed study break, I saw individual packages of Planters Energy Mix Trail Mix. Lately anything that claims to give you an energy boost draws me in hook line and sinker since the past 3 months of my life have been a hectic whirlwind of student activity with an 18 hour course load and working in the afternoons!

The day after purchasing this, I was in the middle of my International Marketing class, the tummy was grumbling and I was just dreading the release of some horrendous gurgling sound from my stomach. That's when I discretely whipped out my package of Planters Energy Mix Trail Mix and dug in. And surprise surprise, I just about fell out of my chair it was so good (I might have had I not been in class). The Trail Mix is delicious, with sweet little sesame seed twigs, pecans, walnuts, honey roasted peanuts, salty almonds and ... the best thing - the out of control dark chocolate covered soy nuts! I must admit that I really have no recollection of what my Professor was talking about during that 15 minute interim where I was lost in the joys of Trail Mix, thank goodness he didn’t call on me!

Trail Mix is not the most diet friendly product in the World, but at least Planters Energy Mix Trail Mix is available in individual portions, 1.5 ounce package, and it held me over for about 3-4 hours. Each serving has 240 calories, 19 grams of fat which is 29% of the RDA (0 Trans, 7 grams polyunsaturated, 8 grams monounsaturated), 2.5 grams of saturated fat (12.5% of the RDA), 6 grams of protein and 14 grams of carbohydrates which includes 3 grams of fiber (12.5% of the RDA) and 6 grams of sugar.

Because it is composed primarily of nuts, the fat content is high but it is healthy fat (unsaturated fats help decrease the bad cholesterol). The price of the Energy Mix is definitely worth noting as a plus: Each box contains 5 packages of Trail Mix and retails for about $2.75. (approx. .55 a pack!). This is the perfect snack for someone who is nutty about nuts and all things sweet and salty! Also, I really recommend it to anyone who has an on the go lifestyle and doesn’t have the time or the means to sit down and have crackers and hummus, or a have fridge to store a yogurt.

Every time I see "energy" in a label (especially in a product with no caffeine) I think high-calorie. While nuts are high calorie, at least they aren't empty. I probably couldn't bring myself to purchase this though, I'll stick with plain almonds and walnuts.
