Ocean Spray Craisins: Sweetened Dried Craisins
Craisins are a sweetened, dried cranberry snack that is just simply yummilicious
, sweet with a slight tart taste. I strongly urge you to weigh out your portion and put up the rest behind a locked door, because there is no way that you can snack on just 1 serving of this and not go back for more! Craisins is perfect as a snack, or add to yogurt or for baking in muffins, salad, cookies, sweet breads ... what can't you do with Craisins.
The ingredients are cranberries and sugar - all the brands of dried cranberries that I looked at are sweetened (others use high fructose syrup).
One serving of Craisins, 1/3rd cup (40 grams), has 130 calories and 33 grams of total carbohydrates, which includes 26 grams of sugars and 12% of the RDA for fiber. There is no fat, sodium or protein. One bag of Craisins which has 4 servings cost $2.85. Natural cranberries only have 51 calories, 4.4 grams of sugar and 5 grams of fiber in a 100 gram serving.
The sugar content in Craisins is quite high, so this may not be the best snack for people on a diet, but it's worth it as an occasional treat for you or the kids.

I love craisins, too. You can use them absolutely anywhere that you'd use raisins, or you can mix the two together for the best of both. My favorite way to eat them is in my morning oatmeal.
The best way to buy them, though, is in the industrial-sized bags that one can find at Costco or Sam's Club. They keep for a long, long time, and the amount of money that you'll save is well worth storing them.
I find craisins a lot better than raisins, they are just better. The best would be if they didn't sweeten them at all, but maybe that's just because I like sour things, hehe.
I like Craisins but I'd like them a lot more if they used half the sugar. They're too cloyingly sweet for me. (funny to say that about a cranberry!)
I see there are 100 calorie servings now but I'm not sure it less expensive than doing it yourself. 100g is not a serving by any stretch. 28.3g is the amount that equals 100 cal. More than enough for cereal or just out of hand. I checked out the servings size this morning and came home and packaged up my usual package of 170g. The new 100 cal pkg cost $4 something and works out to .56 cents per serving but can't remeber how much I paid for the 170g at home but I think it will be cheaper. Anything done for our convenience is more expensive. I've stopped buying
'baby' carrots, buy a 2 or 5 lb bag, peel them all at once and it's done.
@Ruth I saw the 100 calorie packs and they are definitely more expensive. It's hard to imagine many reasons for needing 10 calorie packs of Craisins.
