Alpine Sugar-Free Spiced Cider
Cider is the quintessential autumn drink, and I personally have fond memories of the smell of hot cider brewing on the stove on a cold November day. Wanting to rekindle some old memories, I decided to buy the diet friendly Alpine Sugar-Free Spiced Cider. Is it as good as that big old pot of cider that I crave? No, not nearly, but it's not too bad.
The first thing I noticed is that the directions say to brew a pouch with "6-8" ounces of water. Deciding that the stronger version would be better, I brewed it with 6 ounces which was a big mistake. It was far too overwhelming, but adding a little more water remedied this. The taste is just like a candy apple; very sweet, a bit tart, and with a powerful apple flavor. Alas, like I said, it tastes like a candy apple, which, while good, is far from spiced apple cider. There really isn't any hint of spices such as cinnamon or cloves; just ... sweetened apple.
A box of Alpine Sugar-Free Spiced Cider costs $1.70 for a box of ten pouches, which is roughly double the cost of their regular flavor. It contains 15 calories, 0 grams fat, 4 grams carbohydrates, 0 grams protein, 0 grams sugar, and 0 grams fiber per serving; essentially, it has nothing of value in it.
