Uncle Wallys Smart Portion Muffins

Uncle Wallys Smart Portion MuffinsOn my most recent Super Wal-Mart excursion, next to the mountain of calorie laden Nutty Bars, Zebra Cakes, and Honey Buns were a few boxes emblazoned with a green banner reading Uncle Wally's Smart Portion Muffins. Always a fan of pre-portioned snacks, I grabbed a box to learn more and found the package proudly proclaims, low in fat, full of fiber, and made with whole grain. Into the cart they went!

There are three varieties available, Banana, Cranberry Apple, and Blueberry Oat and all were tasty, but perhaps what is most remarkable about these little treats is how moist they are. Some low-fat baked goods tend to be dry and crumbly, but somehow Uncle Wally has tweaked his recipe just right for perpetual moisture and freshness. What totally seals the deal however, is the fact that one serving is TWO muffins, which have a total of 140 calories - did I mention that's for BOTH?!

Each box of Uncle Wally's Smart Portion Muffins comes with 4 twin packs (8 muffins), which weighs 2.5 ounces (71 gram mini muffins). In addition to providing 140 calories, the pair of muffins also only has 1 gram of total fat, no saturated or trans fat, 3 grams of protein, and 30 grams of total carbohydrates which includes 3 grams of fiber (10% RDA) and 16 grams of sugar.

I bought the muffins at Super Wal-Mart for $2.67. The superior taste and built-in 140 calorie portion control make these muffins quite a deal for dieters on a tight calorie budget. Although they taste great on their own, my favorite way to enjoy these muffins is to make a muffin parfait by layering crumbled muffins with yogurt and sliced fruit for a yummy breakfast treat. I also enjoy them heated for a few seconds in the microwave for an even more authentic "fresh from the oven" taste.

I think it is better to just eat real bananas, apples, and blueberries. These things are probably full of sugar and partially hydrogenated oils.

I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart for ethical reasons, but seeing these makes it tempting to buy.

I agree with Jill...I don't shop Walmart but perhaps I can have one of my in-laws buy it on their next trip in....I won't harrass them for this trip.
