Edys Slow Churned No Sugar Added Triple Chocolate Ice Cream
I guess with a name like Triple Chocolate, it is only to be expected that this Edy's Slow Churned No Sugar Added Ice Cream would be sweet - and sweet it is! Sure there is no sugar added - but they used enough Splenda to make up for it. The flavor is chocolatey and did I mention ... sweet?! But unfortunately, this is not like the creamy sweet deliciousness of Edy's Slow Churned Rocky Road Light Ice Cream. Instead, this has a sweet, but somehow off taste that I couldn't quite figure out - until I ate a little more and recognized that familiar icky, left over after-taste of artificial sweetener - yes they desecrated Edy's Slow Churned Ice Cream with ... Splenda! Edy's - how could you! Plus there are also sugar alcohols including maltitol, lactitol and sorbitol - 8 grams worth (sugar alcohols can cause laxative effects in some individuals).
One half cup serving of Edys Slow Churned No Sugar Added Ice Cream has 110 calories - just 10 calories less than the Light version that doesn't have Splenda! There is also 5% of the recommended daily amount (RDA) for total fat (3.5 grams) which includes 10% of the RDA for saturated fat (2 grams). There is also 3 grams of protein and 17 grams of total carbohydrates which includes 2 grams of fiber (8% of the RDA) and only 3 grams of sugars but also 8 grams of sugar alcohols.
If you can't tell already by this review - I am not a fan of the Edy's No Sugar Added Triple Chocolate Ice Cream, because the taste is just ... off. But I am a huge fan of the Slow Churned Rocky Road Light version, and trust me when I tell you that the extra 10 calories are worth it!

Actually I like this ice cream...I've never noticed the funny taste with any no sugar added flavors. I do agree that for 10 calories it's probably better just to get the slightly more natural one. But if you want plain vanilla or choc, the less sugar kind has like 90 calories!
That's kind of a bummer that the taste wasn't right. Especially when it's not making that big of a difference in the calorie-count. My husband finds all of the 'No Sugar Added' ice creams strange tasting, but he loves the regular Dreyer's Slow Churned line.
My favorite ice cream is Edy's No Sugar Added Nonfat Vanilla Chocolate Swirl. Only that flavor. It is unbelievably smooth and doesn't have an aftertaste, especially when topped with Smucker's nonfact no sugar hot fudge. I sound like an advertisement but it's truly impressive. However, comparing no sugar dessert items to desserts with sugar isn't really fair because it's never going to be as good. Anyhow, I think when you do chocolate ice cream items with no sugar, it doesn't come very well.
Wel i like it. I am on a diet and it seems to tk the place of the real stuff. Got to lose the weight!
I tried the no sugar added line for the first time and agree it has a strange taste and I consume splenda on a daily basis. I'm definitely going to stick with the slow churned line that is lowfat but contains sugar. As one of the above posters stated, it's definitely worth the additional ten calories.
