OCocos Chocolate Crisps
Last night I had a bad sweet snack craving which just wouldn't go away - fruit and yogurt just wouldn't cut it this time. After considerable deliberation I realized that I was in desperate need of chocolate, so I settled on a new snack that I picked up on my last trip to Whole Foods, O'Cocos Chocolate Crisps.
As I took the bright pink box out of the pantry, I didn't quite know what to expect. Crisps are like crackers and while I have had many flavored crisps before, usually with flavors such as barbecue or cheddar cheese, I don't think I have ever had a sweet crispy. Who wants to eat a chocolate cracker?! Despite these reservations I dove in, only to be very pleasantly surprised by a deep cocoa flavor explosion in my mouth. Unlike many chocolate snacks, these crisps actually tasted like cocoa instead of some sweet concoction that companies usually pass off as chocolate. As a contrast to the intense cocoa taste, each crisp is lightly dusted with a sprinkling of sugar.
You might expect that such an exceptional chocolate treat would set you back quite a few calories, but this is not the case. Each serving is a mere 90 calories with 2 grams of fat. The crisps do not deliver much else in the way of nutrients with only 1 gram of fiber and no significant amount of vitamins or minerals. Despite their lack of nutrients, they are made of quality ingredients: organic cocoa, organic whole wheat flour, and a few natural sweeteners.
One of my favorite things about this product is its packaging. Each box contains 6 individual bags of crisps with exactly one serving in each. This eliminates the danger of overeating these tasty little crisps. I love built-in portion control for snacks like this because even though they are low in calories, it is still very possible to eat too many (especially when they taste this good). Also worth noting is that each serving contains a considerable amount of crisps--I was not left feeling deprived when I reached the bottom of the bag.

What's the sugar content? I've heard about these from the Hungry Girl website but haven't yet seen them at my Whole Foods. Sounds good.
Ok, I just found the answer to my own question. Only 6 sugars! Not bad for a sweet treat. I'm now on the lookout for the mocha version. BTW, there's a $1 off coupon here: World Pantry. It's on the right in a pink box.
These are great! Especially when used to scoop up Strawberry Preserves:)
