After just one bite, I was completely sold on this bar - it is PACKED with pieces of almonds and walnuts, has a sweet (but definitely not overly sweet) apple and cinnamon flavor, and a nice, chewy texture. One Apple Pie Larabar is 45 grams and has 180 calories, 9 grams of total fat (14% of the RDA), 1 gram of saturated fat (5% RDA), 4 grams of protein and 23 grams of carbohydrates which includes 17 grams of sugar, and 4 grams of fiber (15% of the RDA). Do not let some of the nutritional information (i.e. the fat and sugar contents) scare you. The almonds contribute Vitamin E and protein while the dates add 14 essential vitamins and minerals. In addition, the walnuts provide Omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids (so the relatively high fat content is purely HEALTHY fat - and this size bar was VERY satisfying and filling. Everything in this bar occurs naturally - no chemicals, artificial ingredients, or trans-fats here! In fact, the bar contains just six ingredients: dates, walnuts, unsweetened apples, almonds, raisins, and cinnamon - no dictionary needed to figure out its contents, that’s for sure. At my local Whole Foods, one Larabar cost $1.79, which is a little high for one bar, but the price is well worth it! The statement on the Larabar website says it all: "Pure and simple, just as nature intended." ** from Tanya: Liz gave this an overall rating of 4 because the price is high - but I bumped it up to 5 - some things are just worth the price and this is. Plus you can buy it on Amazon.com at $22.35 Taste:

MaryAnne said: My mouth is watering. However, is this the kind of bar for someone who watches their sugar? I'm constantly confused about that. I'm insulin intolerant, not diabetic. While a granny smith apple is high in sugar, with protein I can have it and the pectin is well worth it. So, if anyone out there is knowledgable on the subject, can I enjoy this bar?

But I'm just not sure how this is better than, say, grabbing an apple. Or a handful of nuts. If nothing else, this certainly is far more expensive than an apple would be, both in terms of dollars and calories. Ah well. Cheers!

Rachel said: almost vegetarian, sometimes keeping a bar in your purse is alot easier than trying to keep an apple in there, just in case. I'd go for an apple first, but sometimes fresh fruit isn't available. And anyway, these bars are amazing! So I think its worth it for treat. I love that they have all natural ingredients, I believe..6 or less. Some other bars have so many ingredients its scary. Also, I LOOOVE the Cherry Pie and Cashew Cookie flavours!!! definitely give those a try. :)

I cut these bars in half for a good fruit and fat exchange at meals. I find this cuts down on the "full" factor and stretches a buck for these pricey indulgences. I love the cocoa mole flavor - a little hint of cinnamon and other spice - to satisfy a chocolate craving.
