SoyJoy Bars

SoyJoy BarsSoyJoy Bars - sigh ... I have a hard time when I get sent a product to review and I don't like it. I have to be truthful in the review, but I really do feel bad, horrible even. And that's the case with SoyJoy bars. Usually I try to find at least one positive thing to say, so here it is, SoyJoy bars are gluten free and all natural.

I tried 3 flavors: apple, berry and mango coconut. All the SoyJoy bars were tough, dry, and had a pasty taste. My initial reaction was a "what the hell am I'm eating" face followed by me looking down at the wrapper for clues - which of course I didn't find. I suppose if I had to chose the best flavor out of the three, it would be the Mango Coconut. I also thought the size of the bar was just too small - as I said about Pria bars, 30 gram bars are worthless - I would only give that to a child, because this does nothing to fill me up, and I think I'm a pretty typical adult.

One SoyJoy bar is 30 grams and has 140 calories, 10% of the recommended daily amount for total and saturated fat on average, 4 grams of protein and 16 grams of total carbohydrates which includes 10 grams of sugar and 3 grams of fiber (12% of the RDA). Not much in the way of vitamins.

SoyJoy bars are 12 for $12.99 at drugstore.com, but as you can probably tell from the review, I am not a big fan so I wouldn't recommend them. Check out more reviews at Amazon.com which had average rating of 2 out of 5 at the time I wrote this [link] - (there is one misguided soul who gave this a 5/5) and at FitSugar [link].

I am in total agreement with Tanya about these bars. I tries the Raisin Almond and the Mango Coconut and could not take more than one bite of each. The tast and texture reminded me of when I was a kid and would eat pay dough...ughhh cringe! I would definitely not reccommend anyone to waste their money on these bars. Instead try a sure bet like a Luna Bar!

I'm just going to copy and paste exactly what I said in my comment when Hungry Waif (over at Nutritious Junk) reviewed these bars this past April:

I looked up these bars online so I could read the ingredients, and it says that there's cheese and eggs in them... why would any company put cheese in a nutrition bar - especially if it is a fruit bar?! weird!! not surprised that you thought these tasted horrible - sounds like they would anyway. as a vegan, I won't have to worry about ever trying these (since there's dairy and eggs in them). I'm a huge fan of Odwalla SuperProtein bars, and will continue to be. Down with SoyJoy!!

These were handed out at the recent Race for the Cure I participated in. I took one bite of the Mango-Coconut and one bite of the Apple and thought both were awful. And they are extremely tiny.

I didn't know there were those flavors. I get the soyjoy vanilla/pb/choc bars at Costco and I love them. they aren't dry or icky. I guess they might be diff?

CraftTeaLady-
I don't think those are the same bars. I could be wrong but there are only three flavors, the ones that Tanya mention, on their website.

I saw the commercial which grabbed my interest and ordered free samples. Unfortunately I made the mistake of not looking at the nutrition first. This really isn't a "nutritional" bar. I think the average shopper would see the name "Soyjoy" and their claim as a healthy snack and think they were buying something healthy.

i did like them!! they taste like fruitcake.

to each his own!

though i know many who disliked it. i did like the berry & raisin almond. mango coconut was a bit weird tastewise.

the texture is... differently nice. not the typical chewy overly sweet granola bar

The Apple bars are good and also mango and coconut is good crumbled on low-fat vanilla ice-cream. The apple one is good dipped in peanut-butter.

I agree with Pinch me and nette. After reading so much bad press about these bars I didn't expect to like them as much as I did. I got the free sample and now I'm planning to actually PURCHASE these babies!

i just got my free samples and i loved the apple. i wasnt too happy that butter is the 3rd ingredient and sugar is the 4th when i thought this was supposed to be super healthy and natural, etc. also it has parmesan cheese? how bizarre is that. i've yet to find a granola bar/snack bar that isnt just a glorified candy bar. even the fiber one bars let me down with nutritionals.

I've tried all 3 flavors and they don't taste good at ALL. The mango/coconut tastes burnt. The apple is the best of them all.

I agree, They look like they taste bad. They look burnt. I sent in for a free sample, they were to be here in four to six weeks, but its a month later of that time period.
When I opened the first bar (the berry) its a awful smell. Its burnt looking or over cooked. It is hard, my teeth are in bad shape and anything to hard makes my gums hard. I thought they would be soft on my gums. But, they don't look like it. Not like the picture at all. I don't think I will eat any of them after all.
