Odwalla Super Protein Bar
Venture into any supermarket, health food or convenience store and you're sure to find practically an entire aisle dedicated to nutrition/ energy bars. With so many different brands, flavors, and health benefits boasted on each bar's label, trying to decide which one to buy can certainly be overwhelming - especially if you have dietary restrictions or food allergies. But my journey to find the "perfect" nutrition bar ended when I discovered the Odwalla Super Protein Bar.
After reading the eye catching label carefully, I was pleasantly surprised that all of the ingredients were identifiable, natural and many were organic (some other nutrition bars are basically made up of chemicals, artificial flavors and other additives), so I decided to give it a try. It has a very dense, chewy texture, and each bite is filled with pieces of whole-grain oats and sweet raisins. I found this bar not only delicious, but VERY filling and satisfying as well - perfect for a quick breakfast, post-workout snack, or for any other time of the day.
One Odwalla Super Protein Bar is a hefty 62 grams and has 230 calories, 4.5 grams of fat which is 7% of the RDA, 1.5 grams of saturated fat (6% of the RDA), 16 grams of soy protein and 31 grams of total carbohydrates, which includes 16 grams of sugar and 17% of the RDA for fiber (4 grams).
While the calorie and sugar content may be a bit high compared to other nutrition bars, it is important to note that this bar is larger than other bars and contains NO refined sugars or artificial sweeteners. In addition, this bar contains several nutrients, including 10% of the RDA for iron and 25% for calcium, Vitamin B6, Folate, and Vitamin B12.
The Odwalla Super Protein Bar cost $1.17 from my local Whole Foods store and it was well worth the price. As a vegan, I consider this to be somewhat of a blessing. Not only is it a good source of protein and other important nutrients, but it tastes great - perfect for vegans and non-vegans alike.

I've been eating these for about a year now and I remember when I first tried them. I hated the thickness of the bar and thought that maybe a zap in the microwave for about 25 seconds on power 5 (it's one powerful microwave I have) softened it up and made it more like a sweet fruit bread. If you have not tried warming any of the bars up (out of package of course) then you really don't know what you're missing. Especially the chocolate chip flavor - tastes like a big chocolate chip cookie straight out of the oven.
That seems to compare pretty well to my current source of protein, eggs. Less fat overall for about the same amount of protein.
