ZenSoy Chocolate Soy Pudding
Pudding is not something that I usually reach for in the supermarket, but something about the ZenSoy product caught my eye. I think it was the fact that it was certified organic, gluten free, lactose free AND vegan - something that almost everybody and their kids can eat. But it might also have been the Panda featured on the package, who on close inspection appears to be eating the pudding.
My gripe with pudding is that I don't enjoy the thick consistency. Thankfully, while ZenSoy Chocolate Soy Pudding is not too thick! I think they have a formula that pleases even my pickiness, but can still be enjoyed by all the puddin' lovin' people out there. I wouldn't have been able to tell that this wasn't a milk based product, or that it was made from soy. It has a dark rich chocolatey brown color, is creamy and smooth but with more of a sweet taste than a chocolate flavor. There is no aftertaste and no beany soy taste. My only complaint would be that this is a bit too sweet for my liking.
One 4 ounce container of ZenSoy Chocolate Soy Pudding has 130 calories, 1 gram of total fat, low sodium (3% of the recommended daily amount), 3 grams of protein and 29 grams total carbohydrate which includes 8% of the RDA for fiber and 21 grams of sugar.
I would have preferred a little less sweetness to my chocolate pudding (and less grams of sugar), but I would buy this again - and this is coming from someone who doesn't even like pudding! One pack of 4 was $2.50 when purchased at Whole Foods or you can buy it on Amazon.com for $3.19 [link]. This is a great option for all, but especially if you are lactose intolerant, vegan or on a gluten free diet.
