Amys Kitchen Thai Stir Fry

Amys Thai Stir FryAmy's Kitchen Amy's Thai Stir Fry is an "aromatic blend of delicate Jasmine rice, tofu and a medley of organic vegetables, covered with a smooth, coconut milk based sauce." Most people hear the word "Thai" and expect it to be spicy, but while Amy's Thai Stir Fry was flavorful, 'spicy' is not one of the words I would use to describe it. When I had my first bite, I immediately thought this could use more salt - but I do have a very liberal and heavy hand when it comes to the use of salt. But since there was no salt handy, I had to keep on eating without it and soon the flavors really came out. It's very hard to describe the taste. It's definitely not the traditional flavors that you are used to. There is more of a smoky, toasty, understated flavor. I dare say that people are either going to either really love this meal or really hate it. I'm straddling the fence. On the one hand is my love for most things non-traditional and 'exotic' and on the other hand, I think I like more 'in your face' flavors.

The Amy's Kitchen Thai Stir Fry has 310 calories, 11 grams of fat, which is 17% of the recommended daily amount (RDA), 36% of the RDA for saturated fat (7 grams), no trans fat or cholesterol, 17% of the RDA for sodium (420 mg), 8 grams of protein and 45 grams of total carbohydrates, which includes 5 grams of fiber (15% of the RDA) and 2 grams of sugar. It is vegan and gluten free.

A bit too much saturated fat for me, but I'm happy to see that this frozen dinner has less sodium than more other frozen meals. Overall, I think with a price tag of around $4.00, I would expect to be wowed by the taste, so I don't think this will be on my 'must buy list.' I much prefer Amy's Indian Mattar Tofu [read the review] when I'm in the mood for something more exotic than Lean Cuisine.

* Oops : there was a horrible mistake in this review with 'chicken' in the title. This is a vegan product. The 'chicken' inclusion was a result of cut, copy, paste mix up gone bad with the previous review. Thanks to the commenters for pointing this out to me. That's why I love comments!

Amy's Kitchen makes a meat product? I'm not sure how I feel about it. I kind of enjoyed knowing there was a brand of frozen dinners that as a vegetarian, I could grab any one of out of the freezer case, and not worry about meat.

i'm pretty sure there actually are not amy's products that contain meat. if you look at that box, and read the description or even go look up the thai stir fry on amy's website, there is nothing about chicken. i'm pretty sure that the chicken in the title here is incorrect.

I think most of the Amy's stuff tastes extremely bland and has a nasty mushy texture. I'm not a fan.

I never eat less than x2 of these at a time.
