Odwalla Superfood Bar

Odwalla Superfood BarThe Odwalla Superfood bar is all natural and made with fruit and whole cereal grains. The bar weighs in at a hefty 64 grams, which I consider to be the largest 'bar' size - similar, both in size and the 'natural bar' concept to Raw Revolution Live Food Bars [read the review].

The Odwalla Superfood bar is moist, chewy and fruity. For some inexplicable reason it tastes 'homemade' to me (don't ask me what homemade tastes like). There are raisins, oats, date (paste), banana flakes and would you believe the first ingredient is grape juice - probably explains the sweetness. The banana flavor isn't very strong or overpowering, a common complaint when banana is used. I would say the major flavor that comes across is a fruity raisin /dates taste and I think adding cranberries would have probably made this a "super tasting" bar! But either way, I absolutely loved it.

One bar weighs 64 grams and has 230 calories, 4 grams of fat which is 6% of the recommended daily amount (RDA), 2 grams of saturated fat (11% of the RDA), no trans fat or cholesterol, 5% of the RDA for sodium (110 mg), 4 grams of protein and 43 grams of total carbohydrate which includes 20 grams of sugar and 13% of the RDA for fiber (3 grams). There is also 10 - 25% of the RDA for Vitamin A, C, E, calcium, iron and folic acid.

The Superfood bar also has 500mg of Spirulina. Spieulinas' claim to fame is that this single celled algae is a complete protein source, containing all essential amino acids. It is also one of the few plant sources of vitamin B12 and even has some essential fatty acids [read more about Spirulina].

The Odwalla Superfood bar cost $1.19 at the time of purchase from Whole Foods, (also available on Amazon.com). This snack bar is definitely one of my favorites. I like the more natural taste, the lack of icing and all things chocolate - no offense to you chocolate lovers.

if you enjoyed the Odwalla Superfood bar, then I think you'll like the Odwalla Super Protein bar as well. Try it!

I second veggiegirl, and the peanut crunch (not the chocolate, but just the peanut) is great if you're hankering for a blondie-esque treat.
