Fiber One Oats and Chocolate Bar

Fiber One Oats and Chocolate BarFiber One cereal is amazing - great taste, low in calories and 56% of the RDA for fiber [read the review], so I was expecting nothing but good things from the Fiber One bar - and it does deliver in terms of the high fiber content. I really liked the taste of the Oats & Chocolate bar. It is chewy and sweet. If you are a chocolate lover, then this would definitely help satisfy your cravings. There is actually more chocolate than oats (chocolate is the 2nd ingredients list, while oats is the 3rd). I am not sure that's a good thing, since I personally have a hard time thinking of anything that includes chocolate as being good for me. Apparently, so too do the folks over at Diet-blog.com, because they thought Fiber One Oats and Chocolate Bar was nothing more than a glorified candy bar [read the review]. But I must say that candy bars have a lot more fat and sugar than these bars, so I can't say that I agree totally.

One 40 gram bar has 140 calories, 4 grams of total fat which is 6% of the recommended daily amount (RDA), 1.5 grams of saturated fat (9% of the RDA), no trans fat, no cholesterol, 4% of the RDA for sodium (90 mg), 2 grams of protein and 29 grams of total carbohydrate which includes 10 grams of sugar and 35% of the daily value for fiber (9 grams)..

The high fiber content really sets this bar apart from a lot of the other bars, and it doesn't have as much sugar as the taste may suggest. The Kellogg's All Bran Honey Oat Bars, which is also a high fiber bar only has 20% (which is still a lot) [read the review]. But while the Fiber One bar is high in fiber, it cannot touch Gnu Foods bars which have 50% of the daily value of fiber and are all natural [read the review].

Love your site! I would highly recommend you review Clif-Z bars (120-140 calories) and Quaker Crunchy Granola bars (130 calories for 2). They are really awesome!

I tried the peanut butter version of this. It was good, but I really think they should make a Fiber One bar that actually is...well...Fiber One. :)

These are sooo good and they are a great replacement for a high calorie dessert. Both flavors are good, but the peanut butter is better.

The Fiber One chocolate chip bar is good and sweet but the side effect of it is that you will be become bloated and gasey. I had diarehhea after eating this bar. There is definately some ingredient in it that has given me some detrimental effects.
Anyone else notice this?

I agree with the bloating...quite uncomfortable too! I thought the sweet and salty taste of this bar would get me through a craving or two since I've been eating better. I will not use this as my "go to" bar for snacking, especially at night. It tastes good, like a peanut buttery rice crispy bar...but the too full feeling gives me pause.

I agree - they're really good, but the bloating and general intestinal distress is unreal! It's not worth it to me.

The bloating and everything goes away after a week or so of eating one or two a day - I love these because they're absolutely delicious, and give me the fiber that is often lacking from my little lean cuisine or WW meals. Definitely stops the craving for a candy bar too :)

I fell in love with these bars... i have a bowl of the actual fiber one cereal in the morning and for a snack later in the day when i'm tempted to visit a vending machine i have one of thier oats and chocolate bars... they hold me until my next meal and they're delicious... i actually look forward to my daily snack!!!

These bars taste good, but the gas is unbelievable.

i love these bars-but i have noticed the bloating too-one good thing is the bloating makes me want to walk it out...so that is a plus- just dont eat one the day of WW weigh in day!

Make sure you increase your fluid intake when your adding more fiber, like eating these fiber one bars. It can help alleviate some of the gas :)

the bloating could come from the ethanol and shellac listed in the ingrediants.. Does anyone else find this odd?

the cereal has great nutritional content but horrible ingredients. there are too many chemicals in it for a "healthy" cereal.

i love these bars...but them saying it's a glorified candy bar..does that mean it's bad for you? i tend to heat these in the microwave for a while, great hershey sub.!

I tried the peanut butter flavor and LOVED it. Very yummy. And tons of fiber. 9grams! Just make sure you're drinking water too.

my mom picked up a huge box of these at costco. i am a fat kid and pigged out on them- i ate something like 12 of them in a 10 hour period. I was beyond miserable. A few hours were spent not being able to leave the bathroom, it was like i had eaten a bottle of dish soap and two bags of Olestra potato chips. When i was fainlly able to make it out, my friends could hear my stomach rumbling from 20 feet away. Definetly not one of my more shining moments. but they tasted SOOOOOOOOOOOOO good!!!

These bars may be very good tate wise and nutritionally, but what ever you do, DON'T EAT MORE THAN 1 AT A TIME!!!!!!!!! I made this mistake and I was left with the most misrible tummy ache ever!!! I have yet to master that moderation is the key...

fiber makes you go to the bathroom what do you expect to happen. thats a good thing.

I love the way these bars taste. I was eating one a day for a few months and I was wondering why I had a ridiculous amount of gas and bloating. I knew it wasn't the fiber because I have always eaten a high fiber diet and I drink tons of water. Then I researched all the chemicals and gross things that are in the bars and suffice to say, I will never touch them again. Check it out for yourself before you continue eating these bars, no matter how good they taste!

Although the label says there's 0g Trans Fat, I believe that by law it can contain up to 0.5g Trans Fat. Since there's a half gram of the stuff unaccounted for on the label I think it might be Trans Fats... Not sure how to prove it however.

I think that these are okay, however i'm not a huge chocolate fan. I prefer the peanut butter or the new caramel ones.

I love the chocolate ones. They're filling and very yummy.

The new strawberry and apple streusel are THE BEST!!! Perfect for those of us who don't like chocolate!

Dear Angie and Jenn,

I was absolutely floored and shocked to learn that there are people in this world who don't like chocolate. No kidding. In all of my 57 years of living to date, I have honestly never met anyone who doesn't like chocolate. You have expanded my world. As for these bars, they help satisfy my cravings for sweet and chocolate, and they keep my blood sugar lower. I eat a lot of fiber and drink a lot of water, and yes, "tooting" is a factor with these bars. I only eat one at a time and only in the privacy of my own home.

@Leaking Ink - I'm not a big on chocolate either. I'll eat it, but I'm not cursed with cravings :0)

I've been shooting loud blanks for a half hour now.

These bars may taste great but it is not worth the horrible gas it gives you. I ate 3 of these one day and my stomach was rumbling all day. I spent half the day on the toilet, boy thats good health for ya. I've had several other nutritional bars which have settled fine. Will NEVER buy again!

I ate one of the chocolate chip bars yesterday around 3pm. I did not sleep well and woke up with a slight achey stomach. As time went on it turned in to pains that I compare to beginning labor pains! I was in my bed curled up in a ball. I made myself get up and drink water which hurt my stomach to do so but eventually it has helped. I will NEVER eat one of these again. I eat Fiber One cereal with no problems. It has to be the ingredients, half of which I can not pronounce that did this to me. I won't forgive General Mills for making something that made me so miserable. Eat at your own risk!

I prefer the caramel (actually more of a butterscotch) and peanut butter flavors. The chocolate tastes of fake coconut, like those really cheap chewy chocolate chip granola bars do.

I’ve had the worst stomach ache for about 3 or 4 days now and at first I thought I had food poisoning…my stomach has been churning and the gas and cramping has been terrible. The thing is I’ve had food poisoning before but it always goes away after about 24hrs so after thinking about it I wondered if it could be related to these NEW Fiber One bars from General Mills I bought last week (the peanut butter flavor)? So I googled “fiber bars stomach ache” and it brought me here. The rest of the box is going in the trash. Oh, yeah…I to eat a fair amount of fiber regularly so I doubt it has to do with fiber shock to my system. There must be something in these treats that are making my body say “NOOOOO….TOXIC….No more please!!!”

Matt

I've been eating the oats & chocolate bars and enjoying them for over six months now, but the bars from the last box I bought taste very salty. Did anyone else notice that? Did General Mills change the recipe?

You might want to check out http://oats.topicoo.com/ for more recipes and facts about oats

I too googled "fiber one made me bloated" and got to this site. They were giving these out as samples at my grocery store so I took TWO little pieces and fell in love so I bought TWO boxes. I had one bar after lunch and went for a walk. Could not stop tooting as I walked. My gosh I have company coming over in 2 hours I hope this goes away. I'm drinking seltzer water to help settle my stomach. I blamed it on my mom's cooking at first until I saw this site. grr

I juat bought a box. I was just about to have one.
I am already all gassy! Now I am afraid to eat one! :(

I've had them for about 3 days. The first day wasn't so bad but I ate it around 6pm. Yesterday and today has been horrible. I don't have to go the bathroom all the time but the gas is horrible and when you work in an office in close quarters its not a good idea to eat these. OF COURSE I ate one about 1/2 hr ago before I found this information. Everyone is right about the taste. THEY ARE GREAT!!!

I have good news. I had so much distress after eating two bars in one day (it took two days to feel better). I decided to do some research and found that we should eat or drink soluble fiber on an empty stomach or before eating anything, even insoluble fiber. I have been using Benefiber (a soluble fiber supplement) since the distress and decided to try another Fiber One bar. I took some Benefiber about 1/2 hour before I ate it and I had little to no adverse symptoms. I am so glad, because these bars are so tasty and a great snack when you have a sweet craving . . .

Some good news regarding the chocolate in these bars. It's semi-sweet chocolate, which is high in monounsaturated fatty acids which have been shown to reduce LDL cholesterol (the bad ) and raise HDL cholesterol (the good) Semi-sweet chocoate has also been shown to help reduce belly fat.
The two things that bother me about these bars is the use of high fructose corn syrup & the presence of saturated fats. Eliminate those items and this is a great product.

these are the best bars - i literally have been eating one a day for 2 years. definitely saves me from going for a brownie or something high calorie after a meal.

hmm, strange. ive notice that all the people who had bloating and/or gass problems with these were people who ate the peanut butter version. maybe its just the peanut butter? i love the chocolate and oats version.

I LOVE this bar! OMG!!! This is the best bar Ive ever tasted ever! I do notice that my stomach gets a little weird after eating this, but it must be the fiber. In fact, I am running out of them! AHHHH! Need to buy more! So good! I love the tiny chocolate chips in it, where you can pick it out! UGH! to die for!

i thought i was the only one that experienced GAS from these bars. whew!! They taste good but get ready to fart!!!

no!!!!!!!!!!!! its not just the peanut butter....i had the oats & caramel!

I hear an echo! ahhh made me bloated as heck. I went to the pharmacy at like 12 in the morning cuz I was having cravings for chocolate. I don't keep chocolate in the house because I can never control myself. Planned on getting a hershey bar or snickers or something and saw these and thought "great! 140 calories and high in fiber". Tasted them and got sooooo excited because It made me full where as normal chocolate bars don't. I thought I found the answer to my prayers. Unfortunatley too good to be true. I have been ridiculously bloated for 3 days now. Thought it would go away but no luck. And like someone else mentioned it's not a fiber shock to my system. I personally eat at least 35-45 grams of fiber per day. Something in these bars is just not good for you. Oh well. I'm just gonna resort to taking a laxative to make this bloat go away. It sure tasted great and if you don't mind being bloated and gassy then go for it. But other than that, would not recommend.

Well that's odd. If I don't get my daily allowance of ethanol and shellac, then I'm a cranky bug all day.
The gas is loud and not smelly. Good office fun.

I've tried the chocolate and the peanut butter and I don't feel any different than when i eat oatmeal or any other meal that's high in fiber. I like they way they taste. They satisfy cravings and I'll continue to snack on them between meals. Aldi's had a version called Fiber Now Bars..lol. They taste just like the Fiber One's but they're half the price!

Way yummy... however, the gas and bloating is the worst!

I also googled "Fibre One and bloating" and here I am :) I ate the peanut butter brand... my stomach was in knots afterwards, and I looked like I was 4 months pregnant!!! Not to mention I had my new beau spend his first night yesterday and I'm pretty sure I farted in my sleep the whole time lol...I hope he thinks I'm cute enough to overlook this tiny issue haha! I will never eat one of these again!

I eat a very high fiber diet (25 g or more a day), and these have horrible side effects. I had a strawberry one today, & it eas just as bad!!!!!
