Balance 100 Calories Vanilla Caramel Crisp Bar
Just as the name implies this line of Balance Bars contains only 100 calories per serving. But be aware that it is a small bar (28 grams), the same size as the Powerbar Pria Plus bar, but smaller than many of the other bars which are around 48 grams. I tried the Vanilla Caramel Crisp and since this bar reminded me of the French Vanilla Crisp Pria bar [read the review], I thought I would just compare the two.
- Both have a white vanilla icing coating the outside of the bar.
- Both taste like vitamin enriched candy bars, BUT the Balance Bar has yummy caramel in the bar, which makes it more candy bar like. Point to Balance Bar.
- Both are sweet, but by using sugar alcohols to replace some of the sugar, Balance Bar can still have caramel and taste sweeter than the Pria bar, but still come out 10 calories less and have 4 grams less sugar. So *Point to Balance bar.
- Balance Bar has 20% of the recommended daily amount of fiber, while Pria has 4%. Point to Balance bar.
- Pria was $0.20 cheaper. Point to Pria. (that was more like a pity point though).
Game, set and match to Balance bar - but we still love you too Pria!
In addition to 100 calories, there is 4 grams of total fat in this Balance bar, which is 6% of the recommended daily amount, 3 grams of saturated fat, which is 13% of the RDA, no trans fat, less than 1% of the daily value of cholesterol, 8% of the RDA for sodium (180 mg), 5 grams of protein and 15 grams of total carbohydrates which includes 4 grams of sugar alcohols, 5 grams of sugars and 20% of the RDA for fiber (5 grams). There is also 15-20% of many of the major vitamins and minerals.
The Balance 100 Calorie Bar was $0.99 when purchased at Whole Foods (of all places). If you like caramel, and you have a sweet tooth, then this might be the bar for you - especially if you prefer a smaller bar to help make sure you don't eat too much.
