Brazil Gourmet Acai Nectar

Brazil Gourmet Acai Nectar My prediction for 2007 was that we would see a huge growth and surge in popularity in the "super fruits" category. These are fruits (and natural fruit drinks by extension) that have beneficial properties, over and beyond the vitamin supplementation that we see in most drinks these days. (I also think we are going to see these 'super fruits' in everything from cakes to baby foods). Pomegranate would be one example that is already gaining in popularity, but will Acai juice take off too? I hope so, because the acai berry contains 57% more antioxidants than pomegranates!

Brazil Gourmet Acai Nectar is 88% juice and I loved it. You might also be a bit put off by the brown color of the fruit juice (I know I was), but don't be! The flavor is a bit 'unusual' at first. It is sweet and fruity, yet it also has a creamy /milky taste to it.

According to Brazil Gourmet, independent testing shows that their Acai Nectar has over 21% more antioxidants per serving than the next highest ready-to-drink acai beverage tested [source: Brazzil mag]. Hmmm.... I wonder if they were talking about the Bossa Nova Acai Juice which we previously reviewed [link]?

The ingredients list is simply acai juice, acerola juice (West Indian cherry - which I first saw in the Izze Sparkling Pomegranate Juice [read the review]), evaporated cane juice, natural guarana extract and citric acid. The serving size is one bottle which has 160 calories, 4.5 grams of total fat and 1.5 grams of saturated fat - which are both 8% of the recommended daily amount, and 39 grams of total carbohydrates which includes 12% of the RDA for fiber (3 grams) and 36 grams of sugars.

I wouldn't mind seeing a little less sugar /evaporated cane juice (same thing) both from a nutritional and a taste standpoint. Brazil Gourmet Acai Nectar is sold for $3.49 per 300 ml (10.14 oz.) glass bottle bottle. That is definitely a lot for such a small bottle - especially when you can probably get a gallon of juice for that price. Nevertheless, I would buy this again, especially if they went down on the price. I have previously reviewed Brazil Gourmet Mango Nectar, which I also loved [read the review] so I'm definitely keeping an eye out for other products by this company. (And I bought this at "Busch's", which is a chain grocery store local to Michigan).

There are so many benefits that you can get out of the acai berry that every person should have free access to it. It would save the world so much money it would be unbelievable.
