Kelloggs All Bran Honey Oat Bars

In keeping with the theme of increasing my dietary fiber intake, I saw Kelloggs All Bran Honey Oat Bars in the grocery store and since they have 20% of the recommended daily amount of fiber, I had to try them - and I'm glad I did, because they are quite tasty! Don't let the words "all bran" scare you into thinking that these are going to be tasteless - because they are sweet (without having a lot of sugar) and with a slight honey taste. They really taste like most other cereal bars (the good ones) but without too many calories and the extra fiber is really the selling point.

Each 35 gram bar (which is little smaller than most bars) has 130 calories and I would much rather get 130 calories from this cereal bar rather than a Kashi cookie which I really liked - but too many calories in one cookie [read the review]. There is also 3 grams of total fat (5% of the daily value), 0.5 grams of saturated fat, no trans fat, 7% of the daily value of sodium, 2 grams of protein and 27 grams of total carbohydrates which includes 5 grams of fiber and 11 grams of sugars. There doesn't appear to be any artificial sweeteners used in this (and no off taste from them either).

In looking over the "bars" category of reviews [here], it appears that I rated most of them highly - and add Kelloggs All Bran Honey Oat Bars to the list. This bar has the highest fiber content of the bars reviewed, and is almost a 5 - but I had to take off a little for the incredibly long ingredients list - and it might be just a little bit too sweet. A box with 6 cost $2.50 at Walmart and I would definitely buy this again. And Kelloggs also makes another bar that I really like - the Special K bar [read the review] which only has 90 calories - but less fiber.

Great site (first time visitor here)! Just a note: if you wanted to reduce calories further and add even more fiber, you can replace half of the oil used with Z Trim, a natural fat mimetic gel made from the hull of corn. No side effects and the recipes in which it is used are not impacted taste-wise. If you could lower calories, add fiber, and have all the taste you expect, wouldn't you do it? Mehmet Oz would - see page 90 of his new bestseller: "You on a Diet" for his new discovery: Z Trim.

Samantha - it is like most bars which I don't think of as 'very' filling - but will do until lunch. Add a small yogurt and I think that would make it more filling and could last me till dinner.

I like these also. Unfortunately Kellogg has decided to stop making them.

Argh. I love these bars and haven't been able to find them anywhere lately. And General Foods took away my Italian Cappuccino flavored coffee mix. Sad.
