Enivga Nestea Sparkling Green Tea

Enivga Nestea Sparkling Green Tea There is a lot of buzz about Enviga - and it hasn't even come out to the market yet. It is slated for release in November 2006, but IateApie had got you covered with a revview. Enviga is a joint effort between Coca Cola and Nestle. The main selling point is that it is a calorie burning drink due to "a combination of green tea and caffeine in a drink that invigorates metabolism to increase calorie burning."

There are many skeptics and here are my thoughts:
So how does it taste? Enviga Sparkling Green Tea tastes more like an energy drink than a traditional soda. There are 3 flavors: peach, berry and green tea. I liked the green tea flavor the least - and the peach and berry flavors do little to mask the strong limey, energy drink /caffeine taste. I didn't like the taste at first, but when I was unknowingly reaching for the 2nd can that day, I realised two things: 1). I got used to the taste quite quickly and actually didn't mind it; and 2). I was influenced by the marketing hype about burning calories because by God, I will take any help I can get!

Do I believe it burns calories? According to Coca Cola, your body will burn 60-100 more calories from drinking 3 cans of Enviga daily (there is no effect if you drink more). I would like to see more studies to prove the effect. The one they cite involves only 35 people - come on scientists, you know you can't draw conclusions from such a small study. Check out this [link] for more details about the study. But I do believe it is possible and since a 12 ounce can of Enviga is only 5 calories, it's not like you are going to be ingesting a lot of calories anyway.

Will you lose weight by drinking this? Absolutely not. Hit the gym people! But, if you exchange 3 cans of regular soda for this, you are saving more than 200 calories per day.

One can of Enviga is set to retail for $1.29 - $1.49. So drinking 3 cans a day is almost a $4 / day habit. One 12 ounce can of Enviga has 5 calories, 90 mg of EGCG from concentrated green tea from tea leaves, which is the 3rd item on the ingredients list, 100 mg of caffeine and the sweeteners used are aspartame and acesulfame K. I'm still trying to figure out where the 5 calories came from since there are no sugars, fats and certainly not enough aspartame to impart calories.

Overall, I would buy this occasionally if the price was right - like $1.50 for a 2 liter bottle! My favorite quote from the article mentioned above [link] says, "the people most likely to try Enviga will be young people who tend to obsess over the next cool concoction -- most of whom aren't overweight, says Georgia State's Prof. Rosenbloom. You know who's going to be drinking these - the thin girls."

Michele: it's 100 mg of caffeine per can. I agree with you nobel4lit and ENSM. You too Corinne, drinking water is great too - but I can't drink water as my only beverage.

Damn, I'm hip. What, you think otherwise? Apparently, I've been consuming the magical caffeine/green tea combo all along! It is called 'Cup of Green Tea with Morning Oatmeal, Can of Diet Coke with Lunch'. Ok, maybe they're supposed to be consumed at the same time. In that case, I would suggest starting with a cup of coffee and moving on to green tea to cleanse the palate. My favorite green tea? Republic of Tea's Daily Green Tea - Orange Spice. 8 bucks for 50 tea bags. Oh yeah...

You know, the ingredients list for Enviga is remarkably similar to Diet coke - but with more caffeine (thus the energy drink taste), and more green tea extract.

It's hype in a can.
