Apple and Celery Juice

Apple and Celery Juice This juice was made from McIntosh apples and celery using a Jack La Lanne juicer. You might be skeptical of the taste, and I certainly was, but rest assured, this was really good. It's hard to describe the taste of the juice, but it was like a 'tart' lightly apple flavored drink. The tartness was probably because McIntosh apples are quite acidic /sour, so it cuts down on some of the strong 'apple juice' taste, while still retaining some of the sweetness. I was worried about the celery aspect, but since celery is 90% water, there wasn't much of the "celery taste" in the juice, although it certainly smelled like celery.

I should have been thinking about doing a review when I made this, but alas, I wasn't, so I could not deduce the nutrition facts for the drink. But celery is 10 calories per half cup serving, 1 gram of fiber and 1 gram of sugar (low carb); and 1 medium apple has 80 calories, 5 grams of fiber and 16 grams of sugar (but I would say McIntosh are small apples). The vitamin content is very low in both, but there are other healty micronutrients that make them worthwhile.

Since apples and celery are mostly water, the liquid will start to separate from the solids if left standing, so be sure to give it a good shake before drinking. I liked it so much that I made more the next day.

If you juice fruit/vegetables, you can kiss most of that fiber goodbye unless you added some of the pulp after.

My husband makes this juice. He also does Apple/carrot/parsley juice which makes him very, very, VERY hyper after he drinks it. Yes, the fiber is not in the juice, but you get a lot of nutrients in a little package. You can always get fiber later.
