Amys Spinach Feta Snacks

Amy's Spinach and Feta Snacks mini sandwich pockets made from organic wheat and whole wheat flour with spinach inside. Best of all, they can be done within 10 minutes in a toaster oven - which, in this case, is a better method than using the microwave, because they come out with a nice crispy crust. The snacks while tasty are a bit bland and I did not taste the feta cheese at all. It was mostly spinach in a pocket and I wished there was something to add a bit of creaminess and to spice it up a bit. Maybe some salsa? That is my secret ingredient in everything!

A box of Amys' Spinach Feta Snacks comes with about 15 snack pockets which is considered 2 servings. One serving is 170 calories, 6 grams of total fat which is 9% of the daily value, 3 grams (15%) of saturated fat, 18% of the RDA of cholesterol (430 mg), 7 grams of protein and 24 grams of carbohydrates which is 2 grams of fiber and 3 grams of sugars. There is also 50% vitamin A and 15% of the recommended daily amount of calcium and iron.

One box was $2.50, which is quite reasonable. I could see using these as appetizers at a small - mostly because they are really cute. They actually look like envelopes. They do contain milk and cheese ingredients, so this might not be for you if you are vegan.

This also looks good, although I should probably pass because of the cheese and milk. I wonder if 170 cal is worth the 7.5 or so pieces I can have...

I think these are also sold in single servings about the size of a burrito, a la hot pockets. I've never had this, but I've had Amy's samosa wraps, which are pretty damn good.

I love the crap out of some Amy's, and I'm skimming the reviews, because as far as I'm concerned, they can do no wrong (although the tofu scramble is questionable). I've never had these, but I'm sure they're delicious

A third way to cook these: Partially microwave, then finish in the toaster oven or regular oven. That's always how I cook food of this type. Saves time and browns the crust.

Kinda sucks that these are a bit on the bland side, but I may try them anyway... they certainly *look* tasty. :)

i have a childhood memory thing for pizza-roll type things (for some reason they were for Very Special Occasions, like new year's eve), so things like this come up as comfort food someitmes. yum!

The recall of Spinach is specific to the brands listed by the FDA. The latest updates and recalls can be found here. From what I understand, the recall refers to uncooked spinach - cooking tends to kill E.coli and Amy's spinach snacks are processed.
