Yoplait Frozen Yogurt and Cereal Bars
When you bite into the bar, you get the taste of cereal and frozen yogurt. There cereal layer does not get soggy, and instead it is a hard but chewy crust which is an excellent compliment to the smooth, creamy, frozen yogurt mixed with the fruity taste from the raspberry sorbet. You also end up biting into small clusters of what I think might be cereal, which is a nice unexpected surprise. There are no clues in the ingredients as to exactly is in the cluster, or if this was even intentional - but regardless, it worked to improve the flavor for me by providing a nice bit of contrasting texture. My only complaint was that the some of the sorbet settled on one end of the bar, so instead of a nice 'swirl' there was a glob of it at one end. This made the milky, creamy yogurt taste stand out more than the raspberry, until the last few bites when there was a not so pleasant concentration of icy fruit sorbet. I still liked this bar better than the other Yoplait Yogurt and Cereal Bar I reviewed - the one that looked like a fudgesicle, but instead of fudge there was cold cereal [read the review]. When I was eating this, it was so good, so rich, so creamy that I just knew in my mind that there is no way that this had a low calorie count. Turns out I was somewhat right - it depends on how many calories you want in a snack. One cereal bar is 200 calories, 4.5 grams total fat and 1.5 grams of saturated fat (7 and 8% of the recommended daily amount), 1 gram of trans fat, 36 grams total carbohydrate, which includes no fiber, 17 grams of sugar. There is also 15-20% of many vitamins and minerals, and 40% of the daily requirement for zinc. Hidden in the ingredients of the frozen yogurt is the artificial sweetener acesulfame K. Yoplait Frozen Yogurt and Cereal Bars cost $2.50 for a box of 4 (on sale), and although I enjoyed eating it, and could have lived with the 200 calories, I am very anti ANY trans fat in any food product. That alone makes me think I might not buy this product again, but the food scientist in me also didn't like the fact that the sorbet settled at one end, so, unfortunately, I will have to pass on this product. I still love you Yoplait - still one of my favorite food companies, and I'm still a loyal customer (just of other products). Comments

Kellye said: Where can I find the frozen cereal bars? I have been all over trying to find them, and have been unsuccessful. Gelson's in Northridge was carrying them, then they discontinued them. I live in Canyon Country, California, and my fiance LOVES these treats. Please email me back. Thank you so very much!! |

this sounds yum altho it'd be perfectly ok-by-me if the waffle thingie were soggy-ish, not crisp. i don't mind/kinda like it when crispy things get saturated.
