Healthy Eating, Diet and Fitness Blog Carnival No.5 Part One

Healthy Eating Blog Carnival Sometimes when it comes to food, we get so lost in dieting and calories, fats and carbs, that we forget that food /eating is about more than that. It is also there to provide us nourishment and help keep us healthy. Quite a few articles in this 5th edition of the "Healthy eating, diet & fitness blog carnival" really reminded me of that, so these are presented in Part One.

Healthy Eating (Healthy Living through Food)
Joel Fuhrman, MD presents Saturated Fat vs. Polyunsaturated Fat posted at Disease Proof. Dr. Fuhrman's take is that not all polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs) are created equal, and some are almost as bad for you as saturated fats. Fats in the diet are such a complex issue - controversial and misunderstood. Personally, I think it is essential to have some in the diet, but I believe in lowering intake (of total fat - including unsaturated) to as little as you can manage. I wholeheartedly believe that DHA (an omega 3 fatty acid) is excellent for health (meaning I believe it helps mental prowess too although this has yet to be proven) and I believe it so strongly I try to eat fish at least 2x per week to get more of this. I just ordered Dr. Fuhrman's book Eat to Live. I'm not big on self help -ish type books, but having read his website over the past few weeks, I am intrigued!

The Entrepreneur presents The Science Of Life - Ayurveda That Works posted at Health Junction by Timi. Ayurveda like many other local traditional medicines all over the world, believes that various materials of vegetable, animal, and mineral origin have some medicinal value. "Do you know that mangoes can increase semen quality? Have you ever tried ginger for your motion sickness? In any case, you can't pretend not to know that red peppers cure sleepiness quite quickly." As a scientist, I can tell you that a lot of chemicals used in medicines today can be obtained from plant and animal sources. This article is an excellent review of Ayurveda.

Ruth presents Apples and Apple Juice For Better Memory posted at Eating Fabulous. Yet another reasons to eat apples (and may I add other fruits too).

PopFitnez presents Top 10 Reasons To Eat Brussels Sprouts posted at iFitandHealthy.com. "Brussels sprouts are loaded with vitamins and nutrients. Just one serving will exceed your RDA for vitamin C and K. With only 6 grams of effective carbs, they are low in carbohydrates, but deliver a powerful fiber punch." Just for you Pop, I am going to eat some brussel sprouts this weekend.

The Entrepreneur presents Fit For Kings - Chinese Herbal Remedies That Work posted at Timi. "It is said that the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty, Qin Shi-Huang, who conquered all the independent Chinese states to create the first Chinese empire, endured long hours of work during which he enjoyed drinking a very special tea." Being from Jamaica, I know quite a few people that enjoy a different "special herb."

Elaine Magee presents a review of Smart Balance Natural Peanut Butter with Omega Fatty Acids posted at Healthy Recipe Doctor. Looks like I'm going to have to add this to my "must try and review" list.

Health & Health Food Humor
Peter Kua presents 10 reasons to buy more anti-aging cream posted at RadicalHop.com. I don't know if Peter meant for me to almost die laughing from this article ... but I almost did.
