Healthy Choice Sweet and Sour Chicken

Healthy Choice says, "In our Sweet and Sour Chicken, red and green peppers and pineapple mixed with rice complement chunks of moist, tempura battered chicken breast. Crisp broccoli florets and sweet peach crisp make the perfect side dishes to this healthy, satisfying meal." I say that Healthy Choice Sweet and Sour Chicken is nowhere near as good as Kashi Sweet and Sour Chicken or Lean Cuisine Sweet and Sour Chicken, or even Gardenburger Meatless Sweet & Sour Pork Rice.

The sauce is a bit watery which dilutes the taste, and there is too much sauce for the small amount of rice that comes with the meal. The broccoli was still crispy after I nuked this dinner, and was one of the high points of the meal, and there was quite a bit of broccoli - more broccoli than rice it seemed to me - which is probably a good thing. The chicken also wasn't too bad. There were about 3 or 4 chunky, 'tempura' battered pieces which was very tasty, especially when the batter soaked up some of the sweet and sour sauce. Tempura batter is a Japanese way of making batter fried foods [see the Wikipedia entry for more info]. There was also a "peach crisp" dessert included in the meal. This was like syrup, small pieces of peach and some oats mixed together. It tastes okay if you must eat something sweet with your dinner. I skipped it - actually I ate the chicken and broccoli and that was it.

Healthy Choice Sweet and Sour Chicken is 430 calories, 9 grams of total fat which is 15% of the daily value, only 1 gram of saturated fat, 25% of the daily value of sodium (600 mg), 5 grams of fiber, 29 grams of sugar and 16 grams of protein. There are 69 grams total carbohydrates and 9 Weight Watchers Points.

I was very disappointed in this Healthy Choice meal. It is very hard to mess up sweet & sour chicken, but H.C. almost managed the impossible. There are so many other great tasting frozen dinners out there, so I don't think I will be buying this again.

I was almost bug eyed after reading this article about ones opinion on the pros and cons of the Sweet N Sour Chicken dinner. Helloooooo? I am going to assume that the one who made that comment, was only in it for the taste, because surely, it wasn't for his health since he "nuked" it. Do your research on microwave cooking too, bud! If the meal was even somewhat healthy before ya nuked the nutrients, then it definately was a healthy "look alike" meal after ya "nuked". SAD.

I think this meal is awesome! I was not a fan of the peach crisp but I'm not one for that anyway. I loved the sauce and the chicken was great! I will eat this again and again! (cook it in the oven!)
