Dannon Light and Fit Crave Control Yogurt
Dannon seems to be investing heavily into making healthier yogurts, which I for one appreciate. First there was Dannon Light & Fit (sorry I didn't review it), then there was Dannon Light & Fit improved version which had less calories while unfortunately lowering the taste and flavor [read the review]. There is also Dannon Light & Fit with Fiber, which I thought was just okay [review] and don't forget about Dannon's contribution to the low carb phenomenon, Dannon Carb Control, which made my all time worst foods list [read the review].
Imagine my surprise at seeing another Dannon Light & Fit in stores. This time, it's Dannon Light & Fit Crave Control with Protein Fiber Plus *whew, that's a long name. I tried the Peach and Cereal flavor. When I pulled back the top, I saw the expected 'orange -ish' color, but also, it was innundated with what I suppose might be little flecks of wheat or oats. The taste at first was like the regular Splenda, chemical flavor. I also felt like it left a residue on my tongue. But I must say that as I ate more of this, I got used to the taste - I'm thinking that is not a good thing. There are little pieces of fruit in this and I could taste it, but I couldn't taste the 'cereal.' I did wonder what a yogurt with cereal would taste like - I expected maybe little oat clusters which would 'crunch' when I bit into them, but alas, this was not to be.
This is supposed to be a Crave Control yogurt though, and if this works to control my cravings, then it's okay in my book. So what exactly does "crave control" mean? According to the label, "Studies have shown that protein and dietary fiber help satisfy hunger and Dannon Light & Fit Crave Conrol contains more protein and fiber than regular lowfat yogurt." This has 70 calories in a 4 ounce serving size, no fat, 11 grams total carbs, 3 grams of fiber which is 12% of the daily requirement, 7 grams of sugars and 7 grams of protein. The sugar replacer used is Splenda and there are oats and wheat flakes in this. There is a little asterisk * beside the words "Crave Control' which qualifies the statement to include "when consumed as part of a meal." I wonder what constitutes "a meal?"
I bought a box with 4 Dannon Crave Control yogurts (4 ounce) for $2.39 at Kroger (in Atlanta). Remember the days when a 6 pack of yogurt was $2.00? If this really controls your cravings, it's worth it. Otherwise, I might still buy it again, even just for the psychological suggestion. A little thing I noticed: The first few Dannon yogurts were Dannon Light 'n Fit, with an 'n' replacing the word 'and'. In the Crave Control, it's Dannon Light & Fit, with the & symbol for 'and' instead of the 'n'. I wonder why the change.

I think this yogurt is disgusting
I am actually trying this yogurt for the first time, and the texture is so bizarre. We eat yogurt for the creamy sweetness, and this is neither creamy nor sweet. (Discuss) My brain is telling me it is unnatural. Why did they even pretend to call it "Strawberry and Cereal?" If they wanted to market added fiber, why not just incorporte cross-advertising, and add the flavorless, texture-less Metamucil. I suppose we wouldn't eat "Light & Fit now with Metamucil." :-)
I actually really love this yogurt...I love the cereal bits in it. True, they are very small, but they are everywhere and you do get them.
I don't know, I adore them!
Dannon Light n Fit was once my favorite fat-free yoghurt...until the intro of Splenda. Sucralose leads to indigestion and may cause upper- and lower- gastrointestinal problems. If I consume even a packet of Splenda in tea, for example, I am certain to have heartburn and tummy cramps. I'd rather have the 30 extra calories from the once non-"fad"-sweetener (aspartame was great!) than the associated discomfort of sucralose. Also, malitol, sorbitol...all these low-carb craze products have really ruined my ability to enjoy sugar free products!
I use whole fat yogurt (1/2c) with berries (1/2c) and nuts(1/4c). Occasionally I'll add Splenda, but most times I find it plenty sweet enough. I usually use blueberries and walnuts, but just about any fruit or nut works. Gives lots of protein and tastes great. And, it's much more natural, with no additives.
Love this yogurt; love the texture and added fiber. (It really is more filling.) Really like the entire line of Light 'N Fit yogurts. MUCH prefer Splenda to aspartame.
When I was down in Mexico, they sold yogurt (it was a name brand, but I forget which) packaged with little packs of name brand (again, I forget which) cereal. It would be like, Cocoa Puffs or something. You'd get a little bit, and mix it into the yogurt. It was actually pretty good! I keep meaning to buy some Cocoa Puffs here to try that...
I love it! I am from a different country and had a hard time finding any yoghurt I like here. This one is awesome. It feels less "gelatin-ey" and doesn't "jiggle". I love the texture, and I do believe I can taste and feel the cereal bits. I am used to yoghurt with all types of muesli, so the concept isn't strange to me. I was actually really surprised that in the whole no fat/low fat/extra fiber crazy no one had done it first. So, loving it - Vanilla prefered and I would like to get raspberry or blackberry!
I've had to curtail my love of yogurt a bit, since I seem to get headaches and gastro problems from both splenda and aspartame. Same thing with "low sugar" ice creams. Such a shame. I love yogurt. I still can find some regular varieties, but so many of the ones I'd love to eat now have artificial sweeteners. I'd rather have the yogurt a little less sweet and just contain plain, regular sugar. I'd feel better and could eat more of it.
I was hoping this would be like yogurt with granola, but it wasn't at all. I'll stick to adding my own granola to plain yogurt.
I tried the Peach & Cereal version - to me, the texture was like eating onion dip. It even started to taste a bit like onion dip - maybe just because it's not sweet, but there's something pungent going on in there that doesn't jibe with my ideal yogurt experience.
I think the new ad with the woman slurping the yogurt at the grocery store is disgusting. My husband and I travel and eat out a great deal and I have lately noticed how terrible peoples' table manners are and this ad certainly doesn't help!! She's a mess :-(
