Veat Vegetarian Chicken Breast

Veat The label says "high in soy protein, fully cooked, eats like chicken, cholesterol free." I say, "Veat does not taste like chicken but tastes like meat (sort of)." The taste is very hard to describe, in fact it has no obvious taste which is actually a good thing. I seasoned up my Veat (Vegetarian Meat), like I would meat, and while there are obvious differences, I think non vegetarians (like myself) would really enjoy this. Right out the package, it's not much to look at. When it's cooked it is a bit softer than any chicken breast I have ever eaten, also comes out a bit dry, but so does my boneless chicken breast and that's what gravy/sauce is for. It also comes apart very easily, so be careful not to cook it too much. Veat is also pre-cooked so that makes for quick meal preparation.

The nutrition is not bad at all. There are 90 calories in a 50 gram serving size, which is about 1/4 of the Veat. There is not much fat, only 3 grams total and 1 gram saturated, not too much sodium at 280 mg, which is 12% of the recommended daily amount, but not much fiber either with less than 1 gram, but there are 11 grams of protein.

One more way in which veat cannot compare to chicken breast - the price. A 7ounce (a little less than 1/2 pound), 200 gram portion of Veat cost $4.69 from Mrs. Green's Natural Grocer. You can get a half pound boneless and skinless chicken breast for $3.50 - usually less. Overall I like this product. I think it makes a great tasting meat substitute.

where can I purchase products. Whole Foods in Abington PA no longer carries this product.
Zip: 19027

I'm curious as to what happened to this product. I've used it for the past 5 years and all the sudden no where I originally bought it sells it anymore (not just wholefoods!). Did something happen to the product or company? I can't find anything.

I have used veat for at least l0 years first the mock salmon one disappeared from the shelves at Whole Foods and now the chicken breast is gone. The grocery managers at the health food stores I shop in have said that the distributors are not carrying the product anymore. I believe Van's is the company that makes the product, but I have not been able to find out anything more about it.

please help me find where to buy chicken breasts I have used it for many years. now I am told the distributers no longer carry it HELP

I have searched far and wide to buy Veat...in stores or online, so far no luck. The only place I had some luck was VitaNet Online, they have packs of 12, but get this, they don't ship frozen orders from Ohio! I asked if they would send it and I would take the risk, and they couldn't do it. Next, the only other option was their distributor, so they said United Natural Foods was their supplier, and their website is only for stores, but they mentioned buying clubs. I emailed them asking for buying clubs in Philadelphia...we'll see what happens. Anyone else with luck?

I too have been a long time fan of Veat products - both the breast and the salmon and have been unable to find it anymore...on the EAST COAST. I talked to a company rep (and I'm not sure how truthful the information was) who stated that the company will no longer be making the product available on the East Coast although it's still available on the West. I have no idea why this is but it's really frustrating as it's one of the best meat subsitutes I've found.

Any one else have any other information??

Please tell me where I can buy Veat still in Philadelphia. I used to buy it at Whole Foods. Now I notice they don't carry it anymore. I really love the product and would like to continue to buy it.

I heard that the company couldn't keep up with the demand.

I order Veat by the case from my health food store, Food Fantasies, in Springfield, IL. Their distributor is Tree of Life, which is a very big company. Find out which retailers use Tree of Life in your area, and order your Veat through them. (Tree of Life carries Veat Gourmet Bites, the Fillet, and the Nuggets, but not the Breast.)

But it looks to me like Veat is on life-support. If the Whole Foods market were restored, I think the picture would look much better.

Would anybody be interested in helping lauch a Vegetarian campaign to persuade Whole Foods to restore Veat?

I love Veat Gourmet Bites...I can still get Veat at my local grocery store (as of a week a go)...as for whole foods, you can normally go to the customer service area and request any product. Ask family and follow vegetarians for their help. I haven't been to the local whole foods in like a month to buy vegetarian items I can't get here.

Seriously, ask customer service they will either get it or they should give you a reason.

It seems so strange to me that this product has just disappeared. I even went to the Van's home site and there is no information that this product ever existed. Searching the web was useless. Not a clue to anything. Personally after using this product for many years I would like to know the reason for its disappearance. Maybe there was something very wrong with it. I dont want to be paranoid but why cant I find anything on it? Does anyone out there have any info?

I contacted Van's (the parent company) and they sent me the following response:

----

I’m sorry; we are no longer selling Veat due to an unforeseen
interruption in ingredient supply. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.

Sincerely,
The Team at Van's

I am truly saddened that this product no longer exists. This used to be the centerpiece of my Thanksgiving dinner.
One health food store here in Florida said she could order it for me and I'm goingto try that. Whole food used to have it but its gone!!!

I eat Veat bites with soy vay teriaki sauce several times a week. I am so sad they discontinued this product....

We so much love Veat Breasts but can't find any longer. It's the best turkey/chicken subsitute anywhere! Where to get it now? Guess I'll call the Company....
Vancouver, WA

Discontinued ingredient supply? What is the mystery ingredient that has suddenly disappeared off the face of the earth? Shoot, I'll start growing it in my back yard if it'll get Veat back.

The "Gourmet Bites" has the following ingredients: water, texturized vegetable protein (soy protein, wheat protein, wheat starch), canola oil, soy protein, whey protein, wheat protein, sodium caseinate, unrefined evaporated cane juice, wheat starch, sea salt, tamari powder, yeast extract, spices, natural flavor. (Could the missing ingredient be "profit"?)

I used to be able to get it at Wegmans in PA. Not sure if they still have it. I have moved to FL and the only place I could find it was a private health food store in Daytona.

i would like to know how to order the veat checken breasts?

This is a product that needs to be back out on the market I live in Hawaii and since the discontiunous I Hve really mist it in my diet since i am vegan and its hard to find soy products without egg whites so whoevers in charge get this going again pleace it makes great chicken tacos and just eating it plain is the best i loved this product and i cant rave enough about it
my puppies even loved eating it,so work it folks please!!!

I have a hunch why the popular, delicious, nutritious Veat line of mock meats was discontinued:

Soy production and distribution is virtually entirely owned by white, conservative good ol' boys out of Texas, the same corrupt, racist cabal that is controls America's beef industry, among other industries. Remember when Oprah Winfrey dared to exercise her free speech rights and declare, on national television, that she would no longer eat beef? The good ol' boys nearly crucified her, both in public and in the courtroom. She won, but the chilling effect her adversaries had on her was, and is, long-lasting.

Call it a conspiracy theory, but I imagine, at some point, soy producers realized that encouraging people to become vegetarian had the potential to cut into their beef profits.

Veat was, thus, stopped dead in its tracks.

Keep your eyes peeled for additional production stoppages among the wide array of vegetarian, mock meat companies in the near future.

I loved Van's Veat. I wrote Van's about it and they said there was a product that had to be imported whose price was prohibitive so they cut Veat from their product line.
I'm very disappointed. I've been eating Quorn, the mycoprotein meat substitute, but I don't like it so much. Quorn was the subject of lawsuit by Nutrition Health Newswletter - published by Public Citizen. For some reason Veat disappeared at that very time.
Nutrition Health Newsletter supported the eating of lean meat but I was a vegetarian. I got upset with them for never reviewing Veat and for suing Quorn.

I enjoyed VEAT in the past but did not make it part of my regular diet, and was puzzled when I couldn't find it again. Thanks to everyone here, at least I won't continue searching. I have been a vegetarian for 30 years now for moral reasons, but I still miss the taste of fish. Does anyone know of any other imitation seafood product out there?

Hi,
I live in California and I purchase my imitation fish, shrimp, lamb, chicken from an asian store called SF Market. The fish taste LIKE FISH! The lamb taste like lamb. The outside of the fish is I think seaweed and they made it look like fish, kind of like scales maybe?
