Old Orchard Healthy Balance Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice Cocktail with 75Percent Less Sugar

Old Orchard Grapefruit Juice As I mentioned before when I reviewed Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice [link], "grapefruit juice is one of those juices that you either love or hate." It has a very sour taste and because of that, there is always quite a bit of sugar in grapefruit juice. Ruby Red has 20 grams of sugars per 8 ounce serving. But now, Old Orchard Healthy Balance Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice Cocktail only has 6 grams of sugars. "How do they do it" you ask? With the sugar substitutes Splenda and acesulfame K as the sweeteners.

I am not a big fan of adding water to juices and then sweetening it with Splenda. I didn't like it when Tropicana Essentials Light did it with orange juice cocktail [link], and I don't like it now with the grapefruit juice either. Call me crazy, but I actually like the bitter-ish taste of grapefruit juice, and I didn't like this Old Orchard "less sugar" version. It tastes like watered down grapefruit juice. There is still some of the characteristic grapefruit juice taste, but there is no "bite." Really, they could call it grapefruit flavored water!

There are only 31 calories per 8 ounce serving, 7 grams total carbohydrates and 6 grams of sugars as mentioned before. There is also 130% vitamin C and 5% folate, but I won't be getting my vitamin C from this juice cocktail because I definitely won't be buying this "watered down, Splenda" version again. It costs about $2.50 for a half gallon in stores, and although it is not for me, maybe some people may like that it is not as "sharp" as regular grapefruit juice.

As a diabetic I enjoyed the chance to have grapefruit juice that didn't skyrocket my blood sugar. It's not real juice but close enough for me. Unfortunately it's not available in stores where I live but I do purchase it when I'm out of town. It's the only grapefruit juice to have when you can't have the real thing. I give it a B+
