Odwalla Berries GoMega Juice
The ingredients in Odwalla Berries GoMega Juice are apple juice, orange juice, cherry, peach, mango, blackberry and strawberry purees, ground flaxseed, lemon juice, inulin and ascorbic acid. Notice no preservatives and it is a 97% juice/puree blend. It tastes great! It has a smoothie like thickness, but because it has so many different fruit juices, it's hard for me to say which one it tastes like! I just know you won't be disappointed if you try this.
Odwalla GoMega juice has 100% of the daily value of omega 3 fatty acids (alpha linoleic acid) per bottle, which comes from the flaxseed. Omego 3 fatty acids have been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects, are rich in fiber and may help protect against heart disesease and cancer. The World's Healthiest Foods has a very informative page on flaxseeds [link]. Another ingredient, inulin, is considered a form of soluble fiber, and it increases calcium and possibly magnesium absorption while promoting probiotic bacteria.
Unfortunately, I wouldn't necessarily consider Odwalla Berries GoMega Juice a 'diet' drink. It has healthy ingredients, but there are 320 calories per bottle and 48 grams of sugar - that's like 12 teaspoons of sugar. Note that there are no added sugars, all of it comes from the juices. There's also 6 grams of fiber, 4 grams total fat, with 2 grams being polyunsaturated, 50% of your daily requirements for vitamin C and 20% for iron. I put the nutrition facts per bottle, but one serving is actually half the container. Odwalla GoMega is also a little pricey at almost $2.00 for a 16 ounce bottle.
I really liked this fruit juice omega blend, and I think I will probably be buying it again. However, it might be more cost effective to make your own smoothies. All you need is a blender, fruits, berries (they can be obtained frozen in the frozen foods section of the supermarket). The only thing he's missing is the flaxseed which can be bought from any health food store. It probably comes out cheaper and tastes just as good.

I wonder what the flash pasteurization does to the vitamin content of odwalla beverages. Berries GoMEGA only provides 25% daily value of vitamin C, despite adding additional vitamin C as its own ingredient to the vitamin C already in the apple, orange, cherry, peach, pear, etc. I would expect the other ingredients to contain more than 100% the daily recommended value by themselves. This leads me to wonder if flash pasteurization destroys the healthy aspects of Odwalla's ingredients, and only by adding vitamin C does it contain 25% of the daily recommended dosage.
