Cabot 50Percent Light Vermont Cheddar Cheese
I have never really thought about the calories in cheese, but just in case you were like me, I'm here to tell you that 1 ounce (28 grams) of cheddar cheese can contribute 114 calories, 10 grams of fat and 6 grams of saturated fat, which is 30% of your daily allowance. I'm not saying cheese is a bad thing - just making you aware, in fact, I love cheese! But here's another option if you want to cut some calories where you can, Cabot 50% light, naturally aged, Vermont Cheddar Cheese. There is absolutely no difference in taste between this light cheddar cheese, and the full 30% saturated fat cheese, and I can't express how much I loved it. And I guess I'm not alone, since apparently "Cabot cheddars have won every major award for taste." And there is an unexpected bonus with this reduced fat cheese, 0 grams of lactose per serving! *Lovely for us lactose intolerant folks!
So the all important nutrition facts for Cabot Light Cheddar Cheese: 1 serving is 1 ounce (28 grams) and contributes 70 calories, 4.5 grams total fat (7% of the daily value), 3 grams of saturated fat (16%), 170 mg of sodium (7%), 8 grams of protein and 20% vitamin A. The nutrition facts are very similar to regular cheddar cheese, except less calories and fat. This cheese is a bit more expensive than other cheddars. An 8 ounce block of Cabot's costs about $3.00 in the grocery stores, and you can also buy it online at Cabot's online store [link]. I loved this, and this will probably be my 'cheese of choice' from now on.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for reviewing this. I love cheese. My partner loves cheese. We're curious about 'healthy' cheeses, but it is a lot of money to (potentially) waste. I can't wait to try this!
Thank you for the Cabot's link! I love this cheese but it is never in stock at my grocer's. I can buy it direct now-never thought of it before. S
I love this cheese!! I have found it at Publix, and it comes in single serving portions as well (hung up next to the string novelty cheeses and such).
I don't buy any other cheese... and the single packets are perfect for just a light snack or as a little side to a turkey sandwich.
Well, it sure sounds like it's great, and I'd like to try it, but how on earth do they make a cheese that good tasting without, you know, lactose? Because lactose is milk-related, and cheese comes from milk, and...uh....now I'm all confused.
I'm no chemist, but that sounds odd.
What's as good, or better: the 75% reduced fat white sharp version. Yum. :)
