Wendy's Frescata Sandwiches

Wendy's Frescata Sandwiches Wendy's recently introduced a new line of "Frescata" sandwiches. There are four options: Frescata Club (black forest ham, roasted turkey, and bacon), Roasted Turkey with Basil Pesto, Black Forest Ham & Swiss and Roasted Turkey with Swiss. What I didn't know prior to trying the frescata sandwiches, was that they are cold deli-type sandwiches. I'm not complaining however, as they still taste very good.

The 'artisan' bread that Wendy's uses with these sandwiches is heavenly - 10 times better than regular hamburger bread. Artisan bread can be defined as "hand-made, individually shaped bread free of chemicals or additives, in contrast to mass-produced, commercial varieties sold in supermarkets." [link], and that sounds pretty darn good to me. The sandwich itself is a bit on the small side, in my opinion. It might do for lunch - maybe, but lt's definitely not filling enough for dinner. But, Wendy's also allows us to substitute a baked potato for the fries at no extra cost, and that is a winning (and filling) combination.

The nutrition facts can be found on the Wendy's website [link] but I made a handy dandy table for quick reference.

Club Ham & Swiss Turkey & Swiss Turkey & Basil Pesto
calories 440 480 490 420
total fat (%) 25 31 32 25
sat. fat (%) 17.5 30 35 15
trans fat (g) 0 0 0 0

Overall, I liked these sandwiches, and I appreciate the fact that Wendy's is willing to try including healthier options in their menu.

I just tried the roasted turkey and basil pesto Frescata. The turkey and bread were good but the pesto was tasteless. Also, with 420 calories, 16 grams of fat and 50 grams of carbs for almost $6.00 with just a medium drink, this thing is way over the top. Definitely NOT worth it.

I had the turkey and swiss. Totally not worth it! At Subway you can get a great sandwich loaded with veggies and more meat for less calories.

So in other words... I could get the fried crispy chicken buffalo sandwhich that has 100 FEWER calories and sinfully tastes 100% better? Isn't it ironic how some of the greasy burgers have less calories than the salads? It's safer to just stay away from fast food all together. You think you're ordering something a bit healthier, but you'd really be suprised at the nutrition facts.
