OneSource Complete Women's Multivitamin Supplement

OneSourceMultivitamin Do you pay attention to the label on the back of your multivitamin supplement to see how much of each vitamin and mineral is actually in it? Do you compare it with others in the store? Or do you just purchase Centrum because you think that's the best? Typically I choose the one with the most of just about everything in it, but I recently found an article from CSPI (Center for Science in the Public Interest) on how to choose a multivitamin [link]. To summarize:

Look for 100% of these 10 vitamins: A, B-1 (thiamin), B-2 (riboflavin), B-6, B-12, C, D, E, folic acid, and niacin.

Look for a at least some vitamin K which is not found in many supplements. But vitamin K is made in our gut so I'm not sure I agree with this one.

Get at least the minimum of minerals. *I look for 50%.* Look out for at least some chromium, because research suggests that we don't get enough. Magnesium and calcium aren't usually present at 100% because they wouldn't be able to fit in one, easy to swallow pill.

Avoid excesses of certain minerals. No more than 500 mg of phosphorus (we already get too much from our food), 200 mg of vitamin B-6 (higher doses may cause reversible nerve damage), and 15,000 IU of beta-carotene (more may raise the risk of lung cancer in smokers).

Consider taking a separate supplement for calcium and selenium. Calcium is usually not present at 100% in multivitamins, and neither is the 200 mcg of the same high-yeast selenium that appeared to reduce the risk of lung, colon, and prostate cancer.

After much deliberation and following the advice of CSPI, I chose the One Source Complete Women's Multivitamin Supplement Designed for Active Women, with Green Tea and Cranberry Extract. Here's a table with a short summary (not all of the vitamins and minerals are listed):

%RDA
vitamin A 100
vitamin C 300
vitamin D 100
vitamin E 300
thiamin (B1) 5433
riboflavin (B2) 4794
vitamin B6 4075
vitamin B12 1358
niacin 75
folic acid 100
calcium 50
iron 150
phosphorous 10
magnesium 50
selenium 100
chromium 83

There's a lot of the B vitamins in this supplement, but that's one of the things I was looking for specifically because the B vitamins are good for mainitaing hair, skin, eyes and muscle tone. Overkill with the thousand percent? Perhaps! But, next time you're looking for a multivitamin, be sure to compare labels, and remember the advice given above.

I have taken these vitamins before too. I liked them because I knew they were being dissolved (bright color urine). This is something a doctor pointed out to me -- some vitamins don't dissolve (she specifically mentioned having seen x-rays of people with whole vitamins in their intestines). I also liked the Green Tea and Cranberry additions. The taste is pretty bad, and I threw up once when I took one on an empty stomach. I did see that the percentages on the label were for two tablets, but I only ever took one because that was hard enough to swallow. Now my problem is that I can't find them at Walmart. I just did some research online, and apparently this is Walmart's Brand Name for vitamins, but they still offer the Equate brand as well. I decided to try those since I was out, but I am not as happy with them. They are much easier to take (no smell or taste), but I worry that they aren't dissolving for reasons mentioned above. Anyway, that's my long rambling information about the OneSource Women's vitamins... Have a great day!

I liked this vitamin. I usually cut them in half to take them though, because I have a hard time swallowing pills without gagging and sometimes even vomitting them back up within 5 minutes (not to be graphic lol), but overall I think they are very good, in terms of taste and how much is in them. Also the price at Walmart is very affordable, not expensive at all.

The cranberry is to help get rid of water weight. This is what I have been told. Anyone dispute that?

Hey guys. I have been taking the One Source vitamine for a while now. I have noticed that they do infact run you to the facilities a lot. which I feel is a good thing. I have also noticed that with all that extra water weight gone I have began to slim down. I bought mine at Kroger. I think they cost about $7. But is is all worth it. If I had to recommend a vitamine it would definately be this one.

Hi all:

Just a note about taking them 2x a day. If you only take 1 - it's not a problem at all. It just means that you are getting half the amount which is still a lot!

If you take 2, try to take 1 in the AM and then in the PM. It just makes the vitamin more steadily absorbed throughout the day by the body.

Hello ladies!

I purchased these vitamins last night at Wal-mart. While I had not previously researched this brand vitamin before buying, I chose them simply based off of my own opinion by reading the back of the label. One thing I've discovered lately is just how important it is to read labels!

I'm happy to report that not only have I been impressed with the vitamins thus far (I, too, found my urine to appear bright in color...meaning it's dissolving in my body properly), but I'm also happy with the articles I've found today.

I don't find the taste to be awful by any means - they simply taste like what vitamins should - kind of chalky with that particular odor that most vitamins have. Yes, the pills are a little on the large side but when cut in half or taken in 1/2 doses they shouldn't pose to big a problem.

P.S. - My brother was on the market for a good multi-vitamin and I convinced him to purchase Men's One Source. We both paid less than $6 a bottle (I believe our Wal-mart stocks them for $5.97.)

Hi. I have taken GNC vitamins since the early 80's - namely GNC's Ultra Mega Women's formula- worked very well - but expensive. I am active, athletic, and under a lot of stress and this vitamin worked for me. Price didn't matter to me since they worked and helped with my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome symptoms. Had not been willing to chance taking any other brand other than GNC. Was at Walmart and saw this One Source Line - picked up One Source Ultimate Women's because it said "compare to GNC Women's Ultra Mega". Surprise, surprise, surprise - thus far - I think this vitamin which I paid less than $6.00 for is just as potent, effective, helpful as the GNC brand that I paid close to $20 for. I suppose this will be the end of a long-standing relationship with GNC, I will not be going back to GNC for my multivitamine - this price point for same benefits has me sold. MY RECOMMENDATION REGARDING ONE SOURCE -I SAY TRY IT - ODDS ARE YOU'LL LIKE THEM. Going back to Walmart to find a One Source EFA - hopefully.
Also folks, I highly recommend the website http://www.vitacost.com for buying supplements.

I've been taking this vitamin for 2 weeks now and noticed that I've been extremely drowsy after taking the pills. I take 1 pill in the morning with breakfast and 1 pill at supper. I decided to do an experiment and not take the vitamin for 2 days. When I did not take it I was not drowsy and had a lot of energy. Sounds crazy doesn't it? Has anyone out there experienced anything like this?

I had been on a diet, and had lost 50 lbs. in about 5 months. I started noticing my hair was coming out by the hand fulls. I have very thick hair. This scared me to death. I started taken Onesource and I went to my doctor about 2 weeks later and she did all kinds of test and it turned out OK. I didn't tell her I was taken this vitamin. But after about 3 weeks I noticed I wasn't losing as much hair. I have been on this about 4 weeks now and I am not losing as much hair. I know it had to be this Vitamin. I recommend it to all women. I can't say enough good things about it. Yes it does taste bad but, I try to have something to eat right after I take it. But for the good it has done for me I can handle the bad taste.

I have been taking them for about 3 years. The first year I lost weight (slimed down) and I was trying to concive for a while and when I started taking the Vitamins and working out and going to my doctors check-up to see what he can help me with. I got preggo. I worked so much that I never ate right always on the go. Then I found out I was expecting twins and I stop taking them the doctor recommened more iron. After I had my girls I started taking them lost more weight than I started with b/4 preggo. Can't beat that...lol Now my co-workers, mom, my girls nanny and everyone I meet that tell me they are tierd all the time. I say try these and let me know. It's funny how we women work. If we find something we like we pass it on.
I cannot be without them.
Now I just started my twins on the toddler ones. They really like them and I like the fact that they are like gummy bears. I tested one just to see they where able to chew them and that are tasty.
