Boca Meatless Smoked Sausages
I have been trying hard to find good sausage and burger meat substitutes since it's time to get grillin.' In 2004, I tried Boca Sausages and they were horrendous [read the review]. I love Boca products, especially the Meatless Ground Burger, so now that it seems Boca has updated their sausages, I was excited to give them a try again.
The Meatless Smoked Sausages looked like plump, juicy sausages/franks. In fact, I ended up splitting one down the middle and making two hotdogs from the one sausage. As impressed as I was with the appearance, I was a little less impressed with the taste. It was definitely much better than when I first tried Boca sausages in 2004, but while it was okay and edible, it was also dry and had a soy taste. People who are used to eating regular meaty dogs may not like this non-meat version much, but for vegetarians who may be more used to eating soy products, this will make a decent hotdog.
One sausage has 130 calories, 6 grams of fat, 0.5 grams of that is saturated, 680 mg of sodium, which is 28% of the recommended daily amount, and 14 grams of protein. A package has 4 sausages and costs about $3.00. The sausages have egg whites, so this might not be for vegans.

Where can we find breakfast sausages? We fell in love with them and can no longer find them in any of our grocery or co-op stores within 40 miles of our home. Any thoughts?
