Otis Spunkmeyer Muffins

Otis Spunkmeyer muffinOtis Spunkmeyer muffins are available everywhere, including school cafeterias and vending machines. According to the website, this is a "an individually wrapped, healthy breakfast and snack option that's sure to give sales a healthy boost!" Diet Trash Well, I'm glad it will give a healthy boost to sales, because it's sure not that healthy for your heart. The label says one serving is half a muffin - puh-lease! So multiply times 2, and you're wolfing down 460 calories, 26 grams of fat, 460 mg of sodium, and 32 grams of sugar, from one muffin!

Yes, my high school decided to "fuel" our minds for the PSSA tests by giving us one of those every morning for three days in a row. I didn't touch them, but some kids ate TWO!

What sane person would only eat a half of a muffin?! This is crazy. I will NEVER try one of these!

I looked at the site and I think they are saying this for the "Delicious Essentials" muffins that are newer and fortified, lower in calories and fat etc. but i could definitely be wrong

Odd that I found this blog today. Just today morning I had a heart attack when I realized that those blueberry muffins I buy from the store regularly are 700 calories each! A serving size is supposedly 1/3 of a muffin. Are you frikkin kidding me?

I checked the Otis Spunkmeyer website, and they now make a whole-grain low-fat, fortified "Delicious Essentials" brand of muffin. That's the one they are pushing to the schools now. There's no denying, I'm a sucker for their regular banana nut muffin...but I will only buy the smaller package (2.25 oz.) rather than the standard size (4 oz.). Not to defend the Otis brand muffin, but almost all regular muffins are loaded with calories and fat. That's why I rarely eat them anymore! Or if I do, I eat only half, or I buy a mini. I've tried healthier muffins, but they usually taste like cardboard.

But the Wild Blueberry Muffins are the greatest things ever. A little extra weight is worth every delicious ounce of muffin, I say.
