Healthy Choice (HC) has a line of new Asian inspired meals, including the new General Tso's Spicy Chicken. From the HC website, General Tso Chicken is "tempura battered chicken breast chunks, covered with a spicy brown sauce and served with a rice medley." There were about 3 big chunks of chicken in this meal, covered with a sweet sauce. The white rice was a little disappointing - it came out soggy and a bit bland, but it took on a nice flavor when mixed with the sauce. I really didn't get a spicy taste from this meal, which was fine with me, since I don't like my food too spicy. Overall, the meal was flavorful, and the sauce was an excellent addition to it. It should probably be noted that this meal was Asian "inspired" and it's more like a less spicy version of regular General Tso chicken.
I bet Healthy Choice had quite a challenge trying to get a low calorie count on this meal. However, they did a decent job. There are 410 calories, 9 grams of fat, 1 gram saturated fat, 600 mg sodium which is 25% of the RDA, 310 mg potassium (9%), 5 gram fiber, 15 gram sugar and 17 grams of protein. There's also 40% vitamin A.
While it's not the lowest calorie frozen dinner out there - compared with Healthy Choice Mesquite BBQ Chicken for example [read the review], but it was filling enough for lunch or a light dinner. I like to add a small salad to dinner if I find that the entree alone doesn't fill me up. HC General Tso's Spicy Chicken costs $2.50 on sale, and I definitely will be buying this again.
