Jessica said: I think the math is a little off on this... Wouldn't 2.5 servings at 50 calories per serving total 125 calories? Maybe that's not a huge difference. Maybe it is. I think the only thing fair to compare it to is Gatorade. It's a million times better than soda, surely. And depending on your needs (are you thirsty, or are you running a marathon and need the calories/electrolytes/etc?), I don't think it's all that bad. I'd chose it over Gatorade any day.

Tanya [admin] said: Thanks Carol for letting us know! Water with sugar - sounds less like water and more like a "fruit flavored drink" to me.

Sergio said: I don't think this is diet trash. It is better thatn regular water. Since there is no RDI for sugar, you can't really say that you are taking into much. And in the grand scheme of things, 125 calories for a beverage isn't much, considering all the good vitammins and nutrients you consume and especially when comparing to pop.

Andrew said: Vitamin Water is a great gimmick. Fabulous! Too bad there's no chance that any vitamins have survived by the time you drink it. The half-life of most vitamins degrades considerably with exposure to UV light... hence why most vitamins are sold in those ugly brown bottles. I've had several food scientists and chemists tell me this and word around town is that the FTC is looking into this as well. So while there were certainly vitamins added to the water at the point of manufacture, there is no potency (or very, very little) left at the time of consumption.

neechpeach said: I have been wondering about the change to Fruitwater--adding fructose. I used to love Fruitwater w/o the sugar. Now I don't like the flavor at all--too sweet and no longer healthy. Why the change? I have been unable to find a way to contact Glaceau to ask. Their websites come up requesting a user name and password.

eyeroller said: Obviously you shouldnt just rely on vitamin water to keep you healthy. I find that it doesnt leave a film in my mouth like gatorade does, and sometimes I just dont feel like a plain glass of water. So what if it has 13 or so grams of sugar per serving? If I watched every little thing I put in my body, I would waste my lunch hour before I even got to eat. Heres a thought. Waste less time worrying about how much sugar you are eating and more time in the gym. Lazy diets never got anyone anywhere.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I am counting my calories and just add it in there. I feel happier and asked my doc about it, she said it is probably b/c of the added electrolytes and vitamins. I don't think there is a "gimmick" at all; all of the info is on the bottle! Read it!

Drinking this after I exercise is a lot better than downing a can of Coke. Vitamin Water may not be the healthiest drink, but for non-water drinkers such as myself, this is definitely an improvement.

I have found that the vitamin water helps to curb my appetite and that instead of grabbing my usual calorie filled sweet, i can be satisfied with 20 oz of delicious v-water. So to all of you nay-sayers give this product another chance and substitute vitamin water in place of soft drinks at your next party, I assure you that it will be a hit!

Side-effected said: In response to the Anonymous poster about side effects... Exactly why I was Googling Vitamin Water. I have been buying it on sale (the only reason I really buy anything but the basics) and drinking it as a morning companion to other foods I know don't have much content to them, for examples: muffins (although I add flaxseed to them). On a couple of occassions, I have been plagued with abnormal and short-lived... uh... a complete flush-out (a euphemism for you-know-what) that starts with some alarming churns of the stomach. Thankfully, it is not painful just inconvenient. 'Was it the muffins or the Vitamin Water?' I thought after more than one experience, each time about 30 minutes after such a breakfast. Then I had some XXX-flavored VW (new to me) on a pretty empty morning stomach and, well it's definitely the Vitamin Water. Thing is, I don't know if this is just a morning thing or not. It only seems to happen when I drink it in the morning. I guess that makes the gimmick-or-not issue easy for me; gimmick or not, no more Vitamin Water.

essential said: 125 calories isn't bad per bottle. there are more calories in an 8 oz. glass of orange juice ! i think the focus shouldn't be on calories, since not all calories are bad calories. also, vitaminwater and fruitwater are made with crystalline fructose, which is 70% less sweet than regular sugar. glaceau doesn't use splenda or sugar supplements because they cause sugar cravings and are bad for you.

Its much better than a soft drink, and it gives you the vitamins you'd otherwise be lacking if you were me haha. Personally, I've never had any side-effects from it. I usually only drink 1 a day, then I drink smart water for the rest. But so far, it doesnt bother me at all. I love! My problem is I just cant ever find the flavors I like :(

UsedtoloveVW said: You all keep saying "125 calories isn't bad for one drink" but the fact is it's supposed to be HELPING you, not hurting you. Water should have NO calories. The crystalline fructose has gosh darn ARSENIC in it. Do you really want to slowly poison yourself over time by drinking something that barely has any benefits, since the vitamins can't even survive the clear bottles? And the fructose can create fatty liver if you constantly intake it. I vote pure water all the way... stock up on some liter bottles, whatever brand you like (I'm a personal fan of Fiji...tastes like nothing which is exactly what it should taste like) and you'd be surprised at the great taste of an ice-cold glass of water after either a long day or working out!

manofreason said: Vitamin Water is so obviously a scam. You can get all the artificial vitamins your body can possibly use from a single daily multivitamin. Yes, it's not much worse than fruit juice, but while nutritionists think eating fruit itself is great, they think of fruit juice as about the same as Coke. There are lightly flavored waters with no calories at all. Also, the less sugar you eat, the less it takes to get something to taste sweet. And fructose is the worst type of sugar. 1 bottle a week = 13 lb weight gain a year (to me that's a lot!)

ocflyergirl said: i think its stupid how some of you people might think vitamin water is unhealthy or how theres a gimmick to it, if some of u say that the vitamins "life" is cut short because of uv rays then the same thing must happen to anything else right? take orange juice for example unlike most people i can have oj because they natural sugar in it makes me sick, the same goes for apple juice and grape juice. so for me vitamin water is a good choice since gatorade also very high in sugar and leaves a bad tasting like film in your mouth and soda which we all know is unhealthy, vitamin water is a better choice then that and if some people think its unhealthy they should stop complaining because if its unhealthy then just dont buy it other people enjoy just the taste of it not the benefits u get from drinking it

edf pete said: Vitamin water contains Cystallince Fructose which is basically high fructose corn syrup in disguise but worse. HFCS can contain anywhere from 50-80% fructose the rest being glucose. Crystalline Fructose contains over 90% fructose. How is this bad? Glucose is metabolized in all cells in the body, whereas fructose is only metabolized in the liver. I wouldnt much be concerned with 125 calories as I would with the liver damage over long term consumption of fructose. You are better off drinking a product sweetened with pure cane sugar

Athlete / Nurse said: I hate to point this out to all the people who are claiming this is an excellent option for runners or even the casual athelete; but Vitamin Water contains very few electrolytes and actually has far too few calories to replace energy burned in a workout (about 100 calories per 45 minutes of vigorous exercise). You really can't consider this a fair comparison to Gatorade, Powerade, or other sports drinks due to the massive difference in electrolyte and calorie levels. Vitamin Water is really just a tasty, trendy drink and no more. It is a poor post or during exercise option as it fails to replace the salts your body loses (the entire reason people re-hydrate with these drinks as opposed to water). Either way, its tasty...so enjoy.

This supplement company called Nutrilite (www.Nutrilite.com) just came out with these twist tubes that retail at $10.99 for 20 of them & make at least 16 oz. of vitamin water per tube...they have 4 different flavors right now & you can check the nutritional info on the website, but they have no sugars (sweetened with sucralose). Calorie content isn't listed on the box, but given what's in them, it doesn't seem like they have any calories, and certainly not 50 or even 20. So far I've tried the Strawberry-Kiwi (for immunity) & it reminds me a lot of the fruit waters before they started putting the sugar in - delicious...my husband thinks it tastes like Kool-Aid, so he loves it too!

For anyone that has ever taken an introduction to a nutrition course would not have the wool pulled over there eyes. You get all the vitamins you would need from food and ingesting more from a supplemented water (because the company tells you it's good for you) will put more strain on your kidneys then needed. Also your body will just get rid of the excess through urnie. So if you want to litterally piss your money down the drain by all means endorse vitaminwater.

Also too much water will cause your brain too swell and well the results aren't good, we're talking about death here. Also the bottles are UV-coated meaning the vitamins do last. Besides they don't spend time in the sun to even experience enough UVL to degrade vitamins anyhow. The facts are on the bottle. They are not trying to trick you, they label the correct nutrient facts and its YOUR job to read. Don't insult a drink, just don't drink it. I'm 17 and love the stuff, I need the vitamins and the water is great. I plan to join the Marines next year and need a little weght gain anyways, so if I gain weight good! Its not advertised to diet you, diets are excercise and work-outs not eating! They even say on the bottles don't expect miracles, but each individual bottle contains its own specific nutrient to help you. And if you also drink energy drinks you will lsoe weght because of guarana, and Taurine. **Taurine is not bull secretions, its an amino acid that you coul use that when humans are infants they produce it through cytozines** anyways VW is great for you, dont label it to diet because its doesn't say thats what it does.

I am always on the run so I grab one of these in the morning. There ARE calories but I'm not eating in the mornings [no time] so the Vitamin Water fills me up. Also, they're not fat calories so what's the big deal? So maybe Vitamin Water isn't what we all expected but what are we looking for? A miracle? I think that the best solution for this apparent "scam" is stick to regular water and deal with it.

Chris said: can anyone tell me where VitaminWater says it's a DIET water or anywhere near that. Last I checked it was VitaminWater not DietWater, it supplies vitamins not dietary supplements or help. The true idea behind VitaminWater is to supply those who want to stay away from soda and sugar filled juices and also those who don't "like" drinking a whole lot of water an option.

Jedi Master said: First off, a bottle of Vitamin Water has a negligble vitamin content as compared to 8oz of orange juice. Second, these products are made from distilled water. Distilled water lacks any naturally occurring minerals. Thus, as your body is taking in this "empty" water, the water absorbs what vitamins and minerals you already have, leaving you with LESS vitamins than when you started. Add in the 125 calories, and 32 grams of sugar (about 8 teaspoons), and you have a very bad drink.

I am a dance teacher plus i workout and i have a healthy diet, none of which has changed during all of this. it may not be a ton of calories but i suppose if your body doesnt tolerate the stuff well it could just mess everything up. i have never gained weight like this in my entire life!

I have to say I love the stuff, and 3 months later I have lost 30lbs. just by driking the vitamin water. Every one has different results, but this worked great for me!

Kenny C said: I love vitamin water, if you move around a day you can burn off the calories. Also the sugar is alot better for you. It's not artifical. That's whats bad for you. Look at Soda, each serving is like 32gms. This sugar is sweeter and uses less and comes from plants. Also I discussed the sugar with Vitamin water. It does not contain Arcernic or Lead, that is just the codex for it. Basically what the government will allow, that doesn't mean it has it. They already assured me it doesn't have it, but there's alot of misinformation on the internet.

Jen said: Ok, this is hilarious. There are some very interesting views, but I would like to say one thing. I am a person that drinks mostly water. Unless you are a person who eats only natural foods, the amount of sugar in this drink is nominal compared to the crap you are putting in your system from artificial ingredients in processed foods. So-unless you are completely free of these in your foods a little sugar doesn't really matter does it? I think you are all fooling yourselves when you make these assumptions. The only person I would listen to is the person who eats ALL naturally and then says even a little sugar is bad for you. That person knows what they are talking about. If you disagree, go look at the side of your processed food items in your pantry and if you can identify all of the items you are ingesting, let's discuss your opinion.

Sushi said: people who sasy this is diet trash are full of it - of course it has sugar. Everything does. Just cut out the sugar of the foods you eat. Don;t drink kohii (?) Exercise more. Don't claim to be on a diet and gobble down sugary foods like an addict. Just get up off your butt and pick up some weights, run a little. Calories are UNITS OF HEAT. Sweat it out. I'm on the track team at my school and I drink vitamin water every day. I love the stuff. My weight is a constant 175 lbs (I'm made of muscle.) Only lazy people who sit on their butt all day long would complain about this.

JJ Mulligan said: Yeah the antifreeze thing is an urban legend but staying back on topic... it states the vitamin water has 125 calories? well let's see here vitamin water is for people who are in constant activity, of course it's bad for you if you're drinking it while sitting at home on your couch, but if you're exercising it's the perfect drink and you just burn off those extra calories.

I almost had a heart attack when I read this because I enjoy Glaceau Fruit water (which is pictured) with lunch many times during the week. Although you are totally correct that vitamin water, a sister product to fruit water, is a scam and does have 50 calories per 8oz serving, the fruit water product line that Glaceau makes only has 20 calories, making a bottle about 50 calories total - or 1 WW point. It's a important distinction and I thought I should mention.
