Alexia Artisan Breads Whole Grain Wheat Rolls with Flaxseeds
Alexia Whole Grain Wheat Rolls is au natural, made with whole wheat flour and other grains including flaxseed. These rolls go straight from freezer to the oven for only 8-10 minutes, and then to your plate, and they come out looking exactly like it does on the package - very appealing. Split it down the middle and add a little margarine [my favorite is Fleischmann's Olive Oil Spread], and bite in to a surprisingly good tasting roll. I say surprisingly, because sometimes I find whole wheat breads to be coarser in texture than regular breads, but not so with this product. It's actually quite delicious, soft inside, with a harder crust outside. I thoroughly enjoyed eating it until I bit into some kind of tiny plant like particle. Was that flaxseed? soy grits? I don't know, but when I'm eating a roll, I don't want to taste anything but bread unless I put it in there. There's not a lot of these 'tiny surprises' in the bread, but I didn't enjoy this extra addition. However, once I knew that it was there, the second time I baked up a batch of rolls and ate one ... I still didn't like the extra tiny bits, but at least I expected them.
One roll (which is a serving) is 90 calories, 1 gram of fat, 220 mg sodium (9% of daily recommendations), 3 grams of fiber (11% of daily recommendations), 1 gram of sugar and 4 grams of protein. There are 8 rolls in a package, which cost me $2.58 at Wal-Mart. I think this is a great alternative to regular rolls, but just remember, you're adding almost 100 calories to your meal when you add a roll, so don't over-do it.

This is fantastic. I have been looking for a great healthy, diet resource for a long time now and find that so many are pretentious. I like what you have done here. And if you are at all interested in other food blogs, you should check [this out] when you have a free minute! Take care, and thanks~
I kinda like bread with a little nutty "interest" in it. The sodium content is a little on the high side but that's a lot of protein for a bread! I bet it feels more filling and satisfying than a white bread.
Thanks for pointing us to "Gather" Shari. It'a a very interesting community, and the firat time I heard of it. Cybele, I was pleased by the high protein content too - and gone are the days when I eat white bread - although, unlimited rolls at certain restaurants still get me eating way more of them than I should.
These sound like they might be good for when company comes over... particularly my mom who is the health food nut of the family. Interesting about Flaxseed... I just picked up some Whole Ground Flaxseed Meal at Trader Joe's. It does indeed have little plant particles in it, but it's not bad. We've been using it sorta like wheat germ... apparently it is good for er, encouraging the "other end" to cooperate fully...
I love them little suprises... the more my bread looks like suet, the more likely I am to like it!!!
