Michelina's Lean Gourmet Five Cheese Lasagna (Updated)
UPDATE: I have previously gushed about Michelina's Lean Gourmet Five Cheese Lasagna which I gave 4.5 out of 5 kisses! It tastes great, is nutritionally good, and cheap! At the time, Michelina's LG lasagna was 220 calories, 5 grams fat, 2 grams saturated fat but 760 mg of sodium. Then thanks to our nutrition savvy commenters and readers - I found out that there is a new label on my favorite lasagna, with 310 calories, 6 grams of fat, 2 grams saturated fat and 650 mg sodium.
I emailed Michelinas and got a response in a few days. They informed me that they have changed their formulation and this resulted in an updated label. In addition, the website which still has the old information is scheduled to be updated some time in the near future because it still has the old nutrition info on it. My only question to Michelinas: Why mess with perfection? Why alter the ingredients of something that tastes so great - to make it have more calories - What were you all thinking? It doesn't really make sense to me.
Furthermore, why have a "Lean Gourmet" lasagna with more calories than the "regular" Michelina's lasagna? Lean Gourmet is now 310 calories - while regular Michelina's Layered Lasagna with Meat Sauce is only 260 calories! Hmmm .... I'm gonna have to remove some lipstick from the overall rating because of this snafu - 4 stars instead of 4.5 - not much difference because, it still tastes the same to me, and the nutrition is still pretty good. It kind of begs the question - is the label on their original lasagna correct or does it underball the calories too?
