This week it is all about Ice cream, after all
July is National Ice cream Month. Check out all our
Reviews of Ice cream of the low fat variety of course.
Try a flavor you haven't tried before.
Dannon Activia is made with reduced fat milk, so they managed to keep the fat content very low, 2 grams total and 1 gram saturated. Although they don't use alternative sweeteners, it does contain fructose syrup, and many people aren't a big fan of this. There are 17 grams of sugar in a 4 ounce container, which may seem a bit high to some, but this amount is not unusual. I think they might have been able to reduce it a bit though, since the yogurt is very sweet - but then again, my taste buds have gotten used to less sugar in my diet. There are also 110 calories per 4 oz cup, 5 grams of protein, and 15% of the RDA of calcium. The 4 pack (with 4 oz containers) costs $1.93, but most other yogurts sell a 6 pack for the same price. (Don't you just love how instead of increasing the price, Dannon just makes a package with fewer numbers of individual packs. Check out Iniard's Watch for his take on this - he was not as amused as I was). Overall, I think this will make a great snack. It's healthy and good for you, and it doesn't sacrifice taste. Taste:

LordJezo said: Did you try it for two weeks? I am curious to see if it actually works. Maybe I'll do a two week project and see what happens to my bowels.

Anonymous said: Be careful - I ate it for 3 days and woke up in the night with terrible stomach pain that lasted about six hours. Couldn't think of any other culprit. Wonder if anyone else had this experience?

Me said: I love this website. I'll add my 2 cents. I bought this yogurt on recommendation that it tasted very good. I will agree, but this is coming from someone who has been eating lowfat, low sugar yogurts for many years. If you're already "regular", I would not suggest this yogurt, as it had me going multiple times a day after only two days. Today, two days after my last serving (I only consumed 2 days' worth), I am still going and my stomach is cramping like I drank a gallon of milk (I'm lactose intolerant but have never had a problem with yogurt). I'd say it works well ...maybe too well. I still have 6 more left and will be spacing these out very judiciously.

Maureen said: I had to have an operation, I have IBS nothing worked. I had to wear a pad everyday. I have been on Activia for one month and it has cleared everything up. I never had stomach cramps or any side effects. This has saved my life. I still have to be careful of what I eat, but I feel free again to go out and enjoy myself.

I eat it twice every day and have absolutely no side effects. It's delicious and so nutritious. I've eaten yogurt for nutrition for 10 years, and this is better for us. I highly recommend Activia.

I googled Danon Activa to see if this had anythign to do with my gas, and it looks like it affects some people, like myself, this way. I am going to stop eating it immediately!

Gloria said: I ate activia just one time. Today I am feeling severe stomach cramps. Don't know if this will pass and I should give it another try or to stop eating it. I am afraid to try it again today. Don't know if our system has to adjust. Maybe I will try half next time. Taste is good. Cramping is horrible. Any susggestoins out there.

Gloria said: A suggestion for anyone out there giving activia a try for the first time maybe you should try half. It just might be me but I experienced severe stomach cramping.

Sherry said: I just had my gallbladder removed last week. I have had IBS for a while. After surgery I developed oral thrush, and my reflux seemed worse. My doctor suggested activia for the thrush. It began to work quickly. An added benefit was that my system became regular, and my reflux systems are almost nil. Great product in my book and I will continue to use it regularly. |

Hey, nice blog. It is a plus that they did not use artificial sweeteners like half their other varieties, even though I got some problems with the price increase through smaller serving sizes!! Thanks for the link, I've also added you to my short but growing list.... jude
