Bossa Nova Acai Juice - Passion Fruit

Bossa Nova Acai JuiceAccording to Drinks Business Reviews Online, one of the "Ten trends to watch in packaged goods in 2006" includes more juices from from superfruits. "Some fruits have better health credentials than others. At the top of the heap is a Brazilian rainforest fruit called acai (ah-SIGH-ee). Renowned for its high antioxidant content, acai is nearing breakout status, buoyed by new product launches like Bossa Nova Acai Juice in the USA."

This juice had better be super good for you - because it costs $3.00 (at Kroger supermarket) for a 10oz bottle. (10oz is smaller than a can of soda). I tried the Acai with passion fruit. The ingredients are "wild harvested acai juice, passion fruit juice, organic agave and natural flavors." Sounds healthy and it tastes pretty good too. It tastes like sweet grape juice, but I couldn't really detect much of the passion fruit. There is a hint of something "unidentifiable" there too - must be one of those exotic juices, none of which I have tasted before (except for passion fruit).

Nutritionally, there is a nice chart on the bottle which shows you that acai fruit has almost 50% more antioxidants than pomegranate and way more than blueberries. From the more familiar nutrition label - one serving is 8 ounces but the bottle has 10 ounces. Somebody tell me WHY do they do this? Come on Bossa Nova, one bottle could have been a serving - we are talking about 2 ounces here! So for one bottle, there are 123 calories, 22.5 grams of sugar, and not much in the way of vitamins and minerals.

If you would like to boost your intake of antioxidants, then this seems like a good way to do it, but it's a little too expensive for my budget. Check out BevNet's review. By the way, other "good for you" fruits include pomegranate, guarana, noni, mangosteen, goji berries, blueberries and even black currants.

Why doesn't Bossa Nova say what percentage of juice is in its bottle on its bottle? It is required by law in the U.S.

Not all juices tell the % of juice or the mg of the key ingredients. Amigo juice/capsules do have the mg listed. Each serving of concentrated powder and each serving of capsules has 500 mg of acai, mangosteen pericarp and goji. There are no additives, preservatives or fillers. It is not pasteurized.
I think it's one of the best products out there, you're getting what you pay for.

MonaVie isn't expensive if you consider that each bottle is just over 25 ounces and there are about 13 servings in each bottle. Even at retail price $45- that's about $3.50/2 oz serving. That's better than a Starbucks and its ORAC level is over 1000 while Bossa Nova's is in the 100s. I'd pay 50 cents for that difference and the caloric intake is lower

The Bossa nova juice is truly delicious. I have tried the original ad blueberry flavors and i just saw a new mango flavor today in stores. The acai fruit is by far the most nutritious and potent fruit known to mankind. Ive heard first hand from many doctors who have prescribed this juice to their patients. One doctor in particular stated how he has never lost a patient to cancer who he put on the acai juice diet. The acai berry is an amazing fruit juice that I highly suggest everyone start drinking if they honestly want to stay extremely healthy, vibrant, and young far far into their old age :)
