Lean Pockets Low fat Four Cheese Pizza
When the words 'pizza' and 'four cheese' come up on a food label, I don't usually think of these as healthy options, but since these are 'Lean' Pockets, they must not be too bad for you - right? Well, the first thing to do is check out the nutrition. Each pizza pocket has 290 calories, 7 grams total fat, 3.5 grams saturated fat (no trans fat), and 690 mg sodium (29% of the recommended daily allowance) - a bit too high. If carbs are important to you - there are 44 grams in this - it even sounds high to me, and I don't know a thing about counting carbs - but there are only 9 grams of sugars, plus you get 15-30% of a few vitamins and minerals. So not too bad - except for the sodium. I can't say I would have this for breakfast though - too many calories. If you compare it with Lean Pockets Supreme Pizza (check out the review), then the Supreme is actually 200 calories, and less fat at 7 grams, and less sodium, 540 mg.
This also tastes pretty good - very rich and flavorful. They use low fat mozzarella, low fat cheddar, Parmesan and Romano cheese with pepperoni flavored sauce in a crust. One thing I must say about Lean Pockets is that they get excellent ratings for making a microwaved product with a crisp crust - not a very easy thing to do. One pocket is filling enough for lunch (if you are on a diet or generally don't eat much) - as long as you know you will be hungry again in 2 hours - but I doubt it will be enough for guys - you men just eat more. Remember to let this product cool for a minute or two before you eat it - it is HOT when it comes out of the microwave, and that filling will burn your tongue.
Overall, a bit too high in sodium at almost one third of what you should have daily, but not too bad nutritionally - and it tastes pretty good and it's not too expensive at around $2.50 for the pack of two. For some reason though, I feel guilty when I eat this, like I'm cheating on my diet or something - but that's just me.
