Subway Melt

sammichThis is no ordinary food review - not today. This is more of a confession. It's time to come clean and face my shame. I cheated on Subway with Quiznos! Yes, that's right. Quiznos seduced me with those hot, toasted sub sandwiches, and once I tried it, I was hooked - Subway couldn't compete. I actually left Subway for a while. I was just so caught up in the affair, that I wasn't seeing straight. I didn't see that there was no nutrition information to be found anywhere. Part of me knew but I just didn't want to acknowledge it - I was whipped.

But then, one day, quite by accident, I had the wool pulled from in front of my eyes. I was reading the 'USA Food Policy Weblog', and he has a battle/war/campaign against Quiznos. They don't provide nutrition info he said, not in their stores, not on their website, not when emailed, not when mailed. What!! What kind of company doesn't give the people what they want? I had to end it. It hurt to leave Quiznos - I really liked them a lot, but Subway has always been good to me. So I went back to Subway, and they took me back with no hard feelings. In fact, they listened to me and started selling toasted sammiches, and I'm happier than ever!

Great taste but on the high side for sodium and saturated fat.
The "Subway Melt" sandwich is "lean and tender sliced turkey, ham and crispy bacon topped with melted cheese and served hot with your choice of fresh vegetables and condiments on freshly baked bread." Pure goodness in taste. It's not one of the 'leanest' choices they have to offer - but ham and bacon are my weaknesses! Of course, I had the 6 inch on wheat, and my toppings were lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, and pickles - no mayo or any other sauce.

The nutrition info on their website says for the 6 inch Subway Melt, there are 380 calories, 12 grams fat, 5 grams saturated fat (25% of the daily value), 1610 mg sodium (more than 50% of the daily value - wowza!), 25 grams protein, 4 grams fiber, and some calcium, iron, vitamin A and C; and this is probably with the Italian or Wheat bread. This is one of my fave Subway sandwiches. And may I humbly suggest not getting the chips!

I was a big Quizno's fan too, but knew in the back of my mind there was something wrong -- that was it -- no nutritional information on all those great tasting sandwiches! So I switched back to Subway too.

I love Quizno's myself and as I was just on their website I noticed that they now have nutritional info on all their subs. Just look at the menu and at the bottom you can click to add nutritional info. http://www.quiznos.com/menu/subs.aspx Check it out and enjoy!
