South Beach Diet Grilled Chicken and Vegetable Harvest Wheat Crust Pizza
South Beach Diet frozen meals are usually more expensive than the other frozen dinners like Lean Cuisine, Healthy Choice and Weight Watchers, so it makes it hard to buy them when you have cheaper options less than 2 ft away, but it's so hard to find supposedly health pizza in the grocery stores, so I thought this was worth a try. I picked up the Grilled Chicken and Vegetable variety and it was too delicious. You could immediately identify that the vegetable topping was spinach and this was an excellent choice, because it made the pizza flavorful, and definitely different from the usual pepperoni blah blah (and I don't even like spinach). They didn't skimp on the chicken either and you can expect to have a piece in every bite.
The beauty of this pizza is that you can microwave it. This still gives us a slightly crispy crust - not as crispy as if you had baked it in the oven - but this made absolutely no difference, in fact a little softness made it even better. This pizza also deserves an award for being the first frozen packaged meal (that I have come across) that when it says microwave for 3 minutes, it really is done in exactly 3 minutes! Congratulations South Beach (and Kraft who really makes it). Your prize is that you get to hire me when I graduate, so please contact me (that's a little 'will graduate soon and I'm hoping to not be unemployed' humor).
It's hard to find healthy pizzas in the grocery store - but was this really healthy? There are 300 calories, 8 grams of fat, 3 grams of saturated fat (15% of the daily value), 800 mg of sodium (33% of the daily value), 5 grams of sugar and 29 grams of protein. Plus 10% vitamin A, 40% calcium and 15% iron. Didn't actually expect to get a few vitamins and minerals in this, but I'll take it. This is also actually made with whole wheat flour, but way down in the "contains less than 2%" ingredients, there is 'bleached wheat flour' - come on South Beach/Kraft - we know this is "white flour." The price is about $3.50, which is a tad more expensive than other frozen dinners, less expensive than most frozen pizzas, but it's also smaller, about 6 inches and 6.8 oz - enough to fill up one person. I think if you have a craving for pizza, this should definitely be in your freezer, but be mindful of the sodium.
