Kellogg's Frosted Mini-Wheats

Kellogg's Frosted Mini-Wheats The nutritional goodness of this cereal is written all over the front of this box of cereal - probably in case you are still not reading nutrition labels; "Excellent source of fiber, made with whole grain, low sodium, lightly sweetened, and almost 25% daily value of fiber in one bowl." This is really the reason why I decided to try it, but first, I took a look at the nutrition label to see if this cereal really was all that! There are 200 calories per serving of about 24 pieces (240 if you drink it with 1/2 cup fat free milk). 6 grams of fiber, 12 grams of sugar and 10-25% of many vitamins and minerals. So it is definitely worthy in terms of nutrition.

The taste did not stack up as well as the nutrition. This was supposed to be the Bite Size version of this cereal, but it was still too big. I drink/eat/slurp my cereal with a tablespoon. They are all made the same size, and I could still only fit one piece on my spoon at a time. Imagine having 24 pieces in one bowl of cereal, and chewing each piece one at a time. Not very practical! The actual taste of this cereal was lightly sweet as they said, with what looked and tasted like a dusting of white confectionar's sugar (but that was not in the ingredients - but that's what it tasted like to me). It was very crunchy - you had to chew quite a few times before you got this down, and it had a 'fibrous' tree bark-like, stiff shredded wheat taste, but not in a bad way. The sweeter taste overshadowed the more mild wheaty taste.

This cereal is a bit on the pricier side, at $3.50, but it's in a bigger box, so it works out to about the same in value as other cereals. It's a great choice if you want to add some more fiber to your diet, but Kashi Go Lean Crunch is still number one in fiber and taste in my book.

Yummm...Frosted Mini-Wheats! This has been my favorite cereal for years! I've tried Kashi cereals, but I end up going back to my Mini-Wheats. I actually like that only one mini-wheat fits on my spoon. It makes it last longer! So, I get full. I could eat these plain as a snack. I love 'em. I keep a box at work, too.
