These look very much like StarBurst candy, but if the idea was to make a 'sugar free StarBurst' they succeeded in taking out the sweetness, but not in making an adequate substitute. Sorbee International Ltd. produces mostly sugar free snacks including candy, chocolate, and cookies. In this sugar-free 'FruitBurst' they replace the sugar with sugar alcohols and there is some Splenda in it too.
Splenda gets front place on the front of the package, but the sugar alcohols aren't getting as much love - you have to get to the ingredients and nutrition label to find out about those. Sugar alcohols are known to cause stomach upset such as flatulence and diarrhea when consumed in certain amounts, usually above 10 grams, but each person's tolerance level varies.
I have been reviewing quite a few products with sugar alcohols lately, and my tolerance level must be way down, because after eating one of these fruit chews, my stomach started making 'noises.' It was as if it was saying, "Warning, warning, danger, danger! Do not pas Go. Do not collect $200." (a little monopoly humor there). Anyway, I heeded the warning my stomach was giving me and didn't consume anymore. Each FruitBurst has about 4 g of sugar alcohol but they aren't really sweet and there isn't much fruity flavor, which is about all there is to chewy candy. I wouldn't waste my money with this unless I absolutely had to.
