Hain PureSnax Carrot Chips

Hain Carrot Chips Chips are coming in all different colors and flavors these days. It's easy to stick with the tried and true potato chips, but if you're looking for healthier alternatives, it's time to branch out. With this in mind, Hain's Carrot Chips seems promising. The taste was 'okay" - or should I say a little better than average. They taste (and look) nothing like potato chips. These orange chips are much more 'hardy' than potato chips - crunchy but not as crispy. The first ingredient is stone ground corn, and for those of you who have had corn chips before (like Frito-Lay Corn Chips) you'll recognize that these chips tend to be thicker than potato chips. The next ingredients are carrot juice, vegetable oil and dehydrated carrots, so there is definitely a carrot flavor to the chips. There are bits of (what I'm assuming are) dehydrated carrots in the chips, and these little pieces tend to get stuck/left over in the teeth - kind of like 'the gift that keeps on giving' since you'll be doing the tongue flick/removal action up to 30 minutes later.

Nutritionally, the chips offer up 150 calories for about 23 pieces (about the same as potato chips), 9 grams of fat (14% of the daily allowance), with only 0.5 grams saturated fat (9 g is a bit too much to spend on one snack if you ask me). There is only 170 mg sodium, 1 g fiber, and you get 10% of the RDA of calcium, and of course, across the front of the bag in big letters - a good source of calcium!

You probably won't eat as much of these chips in one sitting as you would potato chips, but they do make a fun snack for kids, and for grow ups too, both by themselves and as part of a snack fest.
