Blue Bell Ice Cream has no extra sugar added, but they use sugar alcohols. Sugar alcohols will cause stomach upset aka diarrhea if you consume too much, soo including sugar alcohols in ice cream is a guaranteed portion control. However, I wouldn't worry too much about eating too much of this because this ice cream would not be my first choice. I tried the Cookies n Cream flavor and the taste was just off. I know it must be very difficult formulating a 'no sugar added' ice cream, but this product, while edible, is far from the tasty treat you expect when you eat ice cream.
Ice cream will never be a 'healthy snack' but Blue Bell does it's best to make it not so bad for you. The Cookies 'n Cream in addition to being low sugar (5 g), is also low fat with only 3 g total, 1.5 g saturated fat and 110 calories. You also get 45% calcium, but you don't need me to tell you there are other, more nutritious, sources of calcium.
Overall, if I'm going to splurge on ice cream, I don't this will be it, not when Breyer's Fat Free Ice Cream tastes so good.
