South Beach Diet Cashew Chicken with Sugar Snap Peas
Another diet, another product for you to spend money on. South Beach Diet teamed up with Kraft to bring you frozen dinners suitable for Phase 2 and Phase 3 for you South Beach dieters. For those of you who don't keep up with all the diet business, the South Beach diet is basically based on lowering your carbohydrate intake, actually virtually eliminating carbs in Phase 1 and then slowly reintroducing them after a few weeks in Phase 2 and 3. I won't go into the merits or baselessness of the diet, since I believe whatever works for you, as long as you don't harm yourself in the process. What I'm here to talk about is the food!

This chicken and cashew meal of 'breast strips with rib meat, asian style sauce and noodles, vegetables and cashews' was very tasty. The sauce is similar to a sweet teriyaki mix, and you get good size chunks of chicken, to make it worth your money. One complaint I have had with a few of the frozen dinners with noodles is that they often come across tasting like 'chicken-noodle-soup noodles.' Thankfully, that was not the case with this meal. My only complaint was that I did not really like the texture combination of chicken and cashews. I was chewing and crunching at the same time. That was too much going on in my mouth for me. That might just be a personal preference though, sometimes I can be too picky.
Nutritionally, there are 360 calories in this 10 ounce serving along with 8 grams fiber and 33 grams of protein, which is not bad at all. That's the good news. The not so good news is the 1120 mg sodium (47% of the daily value), 55 mg cholesterol, 3 g saturated fat and a whopping 13 g of total fat. Overall, it is nutritionally adequate, but there are many other frozen meals with better nutrition, and good taste too. The price was $3.14 for a meal, one of the pricier frozen out there, but certainly less than fast food.
