Louis Rich Turkey Bacon
Lets just start by saying that Louis Rich Turkey Bacon is delicious. It looks and tastes like regular pork bacon, with that smoky, salty taste. I microwaved 4 slices which took about 3 minutes, and there was no excess greasy oil like when I nuke regular bacon. Just don't do it on a plastic plate because it will melt since the bacon gets pretty hot. The label also says "South Beach Diet recommended' if you are into that sort of thing.
Another claim on the label is that it has 55% less fat than USDA data for pork bacon. The nutrition label tells us that each slice has 35 calories, 2.5 grams of total fat with only 1 gram coming from saturated fat (both are 5% of the recommended amount - RDA). There is also 15 milligrams of cholesterol (300 mg is the recommended max) and 180 milligrams from sodium (8% of the daily value).
Now, all of that is all good, but who eats 1 slice of bacon? I sure don't, in fact I had 4 slices, so in all I ate 140 calories, 10 g of fat (16% of the daily value), 4 g saturated fat (20% daily value), 60 mg cholesterol and 720 mg sodium (32% daily value). Not bad, but that sodium sure does add up quick doesn't it.
The turkey bacon was priced at about $2.50 for a 12 oz pack, and I counted 19 slices in that pack. If you have a yearning for bacon, definitely give this a try.

I really like this turkey bacon, which you can get in bulk at Costco. But sometimes I yearn for real bacon. Oooh, the fat. Mmm... Anyway, I've been trying out the Butterball Turkey Bacon. It's pretty good too.
My son has autism and is extremely picky. The only meat he will eat is bacon. I recently started sneaking in some of this turkey bacon and he actually will eat it! WOW! This is a kid who can taste 1/8 tsp. of medication syrup added to an 8-oz glass of chocolate milk. So the fact that he accepts this as "real" bacon says something!
